Awesome start. This is how these openers should be going. Now don't poop away this lead.
This lead is Pitt-proof

So that was nice.

I know it’s Austin Peay but I’ve seen Pitt let too many teams like this hang around too long and make things way more interesting than they needed to be. Outside of Baldonado getting hurt and Kyi Wright being momentarily possessed by the spirit of Nakia Griffin-Stewart, I’m not sure there was one significant negative to take away from that game. A few thoughts...

1. Pitt played like its hair was on fire from the start & never really let up. With no crowd, an FCS opponent, and some key starters missing, it would have been easy to come out flat. The whole team looked fired up and sustained that throughout the game.

2. I’ll wait until next week to form a more definitive opinion, but the offensive line looked good. Pickett has time, and they got the surge they need to make the running game work. Tougher test next week, obviously, but this was encouraging.

3. Seven players ended up missing the game. I believe five of them were Weaver, Camp, Mack, Krull, and Wayne. I don’t recall seeing Tipton. I’m not sure who the 7th was. I think Weaver and Camp may have been the only COVID-related ones (Weaver said he had two positive tests last week along with two negatives, and Camp may have sat due to contact tracing). Apparently everyone who missed today Is expected back for Syracuse.

4. Narduzzi said something like 70+ players ended up seeing the field today. Saw a few walk-ons at wideout and DE.

5. Jordan Addison, Jaylon Barden, and Izzy Abanikanda are going to be a lot of fun to watch on offense the next few years. Ditto Dayon Hayes, Kalijah Clancy, Bengally Kamara and Brandon George. George absolutely laid out a couple of AP ball-carriers and Kamara was always around the ball when he was out there as well. Again, I know it was against am overwhelmed opponent but it was good to see.

6. LOL FSU.

I laughed last night. For as much talent as they get, both FSU and Miami regularly just look like crap, and a lot of it is self inflicted. And it's amazing how it is so hard for those programs to not be able to get a capable QB recently.

As for Pitt, that was nice. One thing I liked, and I know it was against an FCS opponent, so maybe the pressure wasn't there, but there were not a lot of self inflicted penalties. Last year you could count on false starts, offsides, illegal motions, just self inflicted penalties like that.

WR transfer from Maryland. He transferred to Pitt only like 2 weeks ago. He was a former 4 star recruit to UMD.

Yep. Last year, Ulizio himself was good for at least one drive-killing false start or holding call per half, or maybe even quarter. After a while, they all ran together. Pitt had an illegal formation and illegal shift call in the first half, but I think that was it for the offense.

Peak spent a good bit on one of his podcasts a few weeks back talking about how often Pitt shot itself in the foot last year with nickle and diming sht like false starts and offsides and illegal procedure and delay of game last year. Those types of mistakes were one of the reasons why Pitt won 7 regular season games instead of 8 or 9 last year and went 4-4 in the ACC.

Finally got around to watching the game. Not a ton to take away in a blowout against an inferior team, but

- KSP looked solid and accurate. Hope he can keep that up when under pressure against better teams.
- DJ Turner looked good; ran some nice routes for sure.
- Nice to see bodies from way down the depth chart get in the game.
- The RB situation continues to baffle me. Bad Davis is a proven scrub. Abanikanda and Carter look very talented while Good Davis is great for a change of pace. Let the young guys play and put Bad Davis in the trash can where he belongs.

I didn't notice this until I read it after the game, but Bad Davis didn't get a carry after the first scoring drive and I'm honestly not sure how much he played. I'm guessing this was probably by design as Sibley didn't carry the ball much either; they probably used this as a chance to see what they had with Abanikanda and Carter, and then worked Good Davis in for the change-of-pace role.

I don't think it will be long before we see the rotation settle in with Abanikanda, Carter, and V.Davis getting the bulk of the work at RB. Carter and Abanikanda each get through the line of scrimmage quicker than AJ Davis does, and Carter seemed more suited to moving the pile/getting tough yards and neither of them run towards contact.

In a weekend where not a lot of interesting things are happening in the sports world, your super panthers are currently 21.5 point favorites against the orangemenof syracuse.

Tommy Devito is back and if you recall last year's 'cuse game, he got his ass beat and pitt registered 9 sacks. That was also a characteristically pitt game in the sense that it was sloppy and a lot closer than it should have been. I dont know why anyone could justify a 21 point spread in this game though. Is Syracuse that bad? I dont know. If Pitt that good? I don't think so. But a pitt loss would not bode well for the rest of the season.

I was speaking with a buddy of mine when that spread came out and our conclusion was that the spread in a Pitt game is meaningless. 30 point underdog? They might win. Home game vs Furman, Delaware, YSU, etc as a 28 or favorite? They might lose. Every game is a pick em.

I already have $50 on Cuse covering.

No way Pitt wins by 21.5. We could dominate that entire game and only win by a FG.

I don't bet, but if i was a betting marsupial, i would never, ever bet on pitt covering a spread of more than like 3 points.

Cuse is pretty bad. 31-6 loss to UNC, though it was close going into the 4th. DeVito was their leading rusher. Bad offensive line. Top two RBs opted out of the season. WRs have trouble getting open. Not much talent on defense. They suck. An underwhelming performance would be classic Pitt.

He’s the best of the Davis’ so he shall remain Good Davis. He’s a tiny fellow though.
