ZAR is recuperating from surgery. Can you trade a player in that state?

I’d say yes tentatively

100% yes...
I am not in a hurry to break up that 4th line though...but it's Tanev that is the engine...

I'll believe any of it when I see it.

Someone sent me a note over the weekend that they believe Edmonton is the hottest on the trail...obviously everything is a phone call away from changing, but that's why I have floated a few Murray to Edmonton proposals this week...

I don’t really like any trade possibilities with the Oilers in regards to their NHLers. I don’t know about their prospect pool. But they do still have their 1st rounder i believe
The Klefbom idea you had is intriguing but I just don’t know what the hell we would do with all these defensemen. Unless the fear that Letang has of being traded is more of a reality than we believe

I really don't think so, unless it's part of this massive massive overhaul...that's major surgery...too major for a GM who probably can't take a chance on buying green bananas...

Yea so if that’s the case, then I really only think picks/prospects are doable for Murray to EDMI really don't think so, unless it's part of this massive massive overhaul...that's major surgery...too major for a GM who probably can't take a chance on buying green bananas...

Maybe they can get the 3rd back they sent Fleury away with.

Yeah, I wish...but guess who doesn't have picks either...? Them. They have #14, no 2nd, 3rd, or 4th and no 2nd next year...Yea so if that’s the case, then I really only think picks/prospects are doable for Murray to EDMI really don't think so, unless it's part of this massive massive overhaul...that's major surgery...too major for a GM who probably can't take a chance on buying green bananas...
I really think you have to add to Murray to end up at 14...if it's even available...

Maybe I’m biased, but in a market where Murray “seems” to be in high demand, I don’t think parting with the 14th overall is much. Edm is getting close to a win or else point now.Yeah, I wish...but guess who doesn't have picks either...? Them. I think there's two things working against us here:
1. Pro scouting. I don't think this is a special goalie at all. He has some pedigree, sure, but the talent isn't noteworthy for me. I laid every NHL goalie deal the last three years here the other day, no one got a 1 much less a top half 1.
2. The demand is a misnomer. There is interest. But the demand isn't really there because this is as robust of a free agent goalie market as we're liable to see in the cap era...plus big name guys like Andersen, Rask, maybe Fleury, are all out there, and you have an expansion draft coming up...so I think this is a real tough market for us...
But Murray is younger than these guys, he's gotten it done in the playoffs, and you can get out in front of the market if you do it now...especially useful if you're a team that can't attract free agents...

Ugh. I’m starting to be prepared to be very underwhelmed by whatever trade happens. I would really like to recoup that 1st rounder but it seems like that’s not gonna happen

Is the cap set at $81.5 M next year?
I wanted to see what happened if we traded Murray and Hörnqvist away (without getting an NHLer back) and bought out Bjugstad.
I think we cap wise can do Vatanen at $5 M per for som offense from the back line. Additionally, I would have liked Granlund, but I don't think we can afford him even at $6 M per and he probably does not want to play 3C. Granlund @6x6 and Vatanen at 5x5 resulted in a Cap Hit of $82.6 M.
So perhaps Haula and Vatanen for filling 3C and RD.
Guentzel-Crosby-McCann
Zucker-Malkin-Kapanen
Simon-Haula/Granlund-Rust
ZAR-Blueger-Tanev
Dumoulin-Letang
Pettersson-Marino
JJ-Vatanen
Riikola-Ruhwedel
Jarry
DeSmith
I guess our coach will play Rust with Crosby instead of McCann. And I would have liked a little better backup for Jarry.

Buying out should not be an option. Dead cap money does not help this team even Jack Johnson. Better to bury than buyout.

Correct, but the buyout goes 2+ years beyond the contract as well.
Buyout is worse than bury in the long run.

Factually correct, but I don't think I agree if I remember the buyout numbers, particularly for Jugs...the more you defer money towards our demise the less valuable it becomes anyhow...
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
Hasn't JR insinuated or said that he wouldn't "bury" players in the minor leagues?
