My wife's boss recorded a phone call with a consultant the other day. Without his knowledge. Lol. This woman needs fired.

If you're in PA, that's a felony.

I’ve been waiting for someone to catch me being an imposter for about 30 years. I’m upper management now, so if anything, I’m good at faking it!

Well I think that's why Impostor Syndrome does exist to a degree. A lot of the times you have to fake it to make it, then you get to a point where you don't know if you can "fake" it, but you always can, because I think everyone else is.

and by fake it, I mean learn the solution rather than have one right away.

Yea she is. I told my wife she should probably tell her legal department.

Most everyone in IT does this to one degree or another. Nobody knows everything.

Same with "calls" on Teams/Zoom, etc? I've been on some where the record button seemed to be on and no one said anything about recording it.

I think most software has a built-in consent notification. Like, if you're on Teams and somebody starts recording, you should see a notification somewhere that the meeting is being recorded and by staying in the meeting you are giving consent to be recorded. There's also a whole thing with reasonable assumption of confidentiality. For example, you may not have that expectation in an all-staff meeting but that would exist for a one-on-one. Legally (and long story short), I don't know. It's cloudy.

I have to "train" someone starting next week that is joining our team, and basically becoming a peer of mine. It will be the first time trying to bring someone up to speed and not be in the office at all.

I'm doing this too, but not full on.. Like he's meeting with me to discuss what I do, and I'm to relate it to our role.

In our second meeting with each other, he started introducing himself again.

I'm taking a week long vacation next week for the first time in at least a year.

My backup left 2 weeks ago. As far as I know, there isn't a replacement. And my boss also decided to take a vacation during the same time period after I had requested the time off.

I don't know if anyone is going to be doing my work for an entire week and I'm dreading coming back on Labor Day (because we don't get that off this year due to the academic calendar).

I interviewed this guy, as well as others from our team. I think he will fit in fine, but it's still going to be odd. It's also hard for me to train someone on exactly what I do. We shall see how it goes. I had already planned next Friday off to take a four day weekend for Labor day...so I feel bad that the first week I won't be there all 5 days, but it is what it is I guess.

Check out GIMP, too, if you want to dabble without buying Photoshop.
pixlr/e has been my go-to when I'm away from my computer that has photoshop.

Is it nearly as clean or as functional? Of course not, but it can get the basics done.

*Theoretically* one gets promoted, and the new employment agreement has certain restrictions (extended notice if leaving, non-compete, etc) and said contract says increased compensation is in consideration of such. But you're required to sign promotion contract before compensation amounts are available. Can they even enforce those?

Then the answer is likely "yes," so long as the promotion comes with an actual increase in compensation. It doesn't have to be a huge increase so long as the employee gets more money.

Hmph. Appreciate it. Seems questionable at best to make you sign before telling you the raise but the house always wins

I had a request come in at around 2pm on a Friday before a holiday weekend that will probably take 2-3 days to complete. Person followed up at 8:30am today, asking if it was done yet.

Going to be one of those weeks, methinks.

I had someone outright lie to Customer Service about something I supposedly did. Thankfully it was easily verifiable that I didn't, but still really annoying.

I really wanted them to say I did it last week, so I could tell them I wasn't even in the state, let alone the office.
