GDT Pens vs Habs Game 3

Postby Blue Canary » Wed Aug 05, 2020 11:32 pm

All right my little wrist cutters...play some Dashboard and go to bed. We have to win b2b games against a below average team, we can pull this out of the fire..........with Jarry.
I felt better after game 5 vs. the Bolts in 2016 then I do now, although it’s kind of an apples-to-bitter rotten limes comparison.

‘Night.

This series should be over by now. It should be 2-1 Pens at worst.

After we lose in game 4, who will have had a more inglorious time in Pittsburgh: Marleau or Iginla?
Marleau and not close
Iginla and not close. Expectations for him were much, much higher.

This is has been disappointing, but no shocking IMO. They were 3-8 before the pause. This team just doesn't seem to care.

I know that's not the case, but they just aren't good. I don't see them winning this series, and there will be major changes.

What I'd do, in order of impact IMO

Play Rodrigues, scratch Marleau.
Start Jarry. This is more of a message sending than indicative of MMs play but still.
I'm lukewarm on McCann, Sully obviously hates him. So maybe put him back in place of Marleau and let him center Lafferty and Horny.
Give Riikola or Ruhweedl a shot, probably over JJ.
Would potentially scratch Sheary and throw McCann on Sid's line but there's no way that'll happen.

Guentzel-Crosby-McCann
Zucker-Malkin-Rust
Rodrigues-Marleau-Hornqvist
ZAR-Blugers-Tanev

Dumo-Letang
PetPet-Jultz
Riikola-Marino

Jarry

or, if you think that Riikola can play forward and defense in the same game for some reason, scratch one of E-Rod or Marleau and dress Ruhwedel...but that's not a normal Sullivan play...but it gives you a chance to double up on Crosby and Malkin in various roles and help get Crosby away from Danault, a very good defensive center, and away from guys like Weber and Petry...get Sid and Geno out there against Xavier Ouellet in a road game against a militant line-matcher...

Players can really get bent out of shape with the line match game...it disrupts rhythm sometimes...Sullivan can mess with Julien's bench by having 13 F/7 D and with one of the D able to play forward and doubling one of the stars...hell, you can double Guentzel too, who can also play center in a pinch against one of their loser lines...

Defense and forward in the same game? Let’s not and prematurely elevate Riikola to Ian Moran status.

I want to see more Bluegs/Tanev. Maybe not more ZAR but I like what the other two have been giving this series

I don't mean to have an only negative post, as I really don't like to throw those out, especially after the fact...but I don't think we realized just how bad Schultz was last night, he may have been the worst Penguin last night, which says plenty...he legit looked drunk...

I have gone over a couple of clips, and he was an on-fire garbage can last night...

yeah he was noticeably bad. Got walked on one of the goals and his inability to handle the puck/pass it destroyed the last PP we had

The thought of maniacally laughing as I replied to every irate text-blast from my non-Pens friends and fam does sound appealing.

Yes, Shultz was terrible. It's even worse that he's out there with JJ. Every time they're out there the Canadians get a glimmer in their eye.

I agree with this. They just give up too many goals. It's been this way for a while. High end talent only gets you so far, especially once it's getting older and aging.

I'm usually in the Johnson is fine crowd, but he's pretty much been out there for every goal against and looks brutal. He needs to sit for ruhwedel. Maybe run Marino on the left side with Letang or Schultz. Dumoulin has played very poorly by his standards as well.

Lafferty over Rodrigues was a head scratcher for me. I'd rather see Rodrigues over any of Lafferty, mccann, or marleau at this point.

Switch Zucker and Guentzel. Or switch Sheary and Rust. Either way, both of those lines need a spark 5 on 5.

Shut it, Colby...that doesn't make any sense...do what I said a few posts ago or go to hell...

Actual point of similar worthlessness: Evan Rodrigues has never played a playoff game as a pro (2 AHL seasons, 3.5 NHL seasons), in 2015 with BU his team did play four national tournament games (losing to Providence in the Final [RonnieFranchise...?]), one national tournament game as a freshman (bludgeoned by the Gophers), a single series in Junior B in two seasons...

A decade of high-level hockey...ten playoff games...

Randomly: Samuel Poulin has 21 playoff career playoff games (QMJHL) in the only two years of high-level hockey he has played, but no pro games whatsoever...

Not saying he can't do it...but man, he hasn't been there a lot...
