Still no players. I don't know how long you wait but no way the Phillies play before next week now. And if it has spread to the players, the league is pretty ****.

Does the league punish the Marlins?

Brewers vs Cardinals cancelled due to a positive test.

Theyre not going to make it much longer are they.

Maybe they should just play the cannon sound each time a team bites the dust. Whoever is left standing at the end wins the World Series. All the Pirates need to do is stay home.

It's all good. We've got 7 inning doubleheaders on the menu now, so they'll be able to pack like 12 games into a week.

I for one am shocked that a league that decided to play outside of a bubble and have teams travel around the country during a pandemic are having teams get sick. Nobody could've seen this coming.

Is there a reason they didn't do a bubble?

Not feasible. They looked at Arizona (basically the only place that has enough fields in close enough proximity) but they had their own spikes and don’t think they got that far into really considering it.

The MLB proposed it and the players association turned it down.

not sure it's possible for an entire league with the roster sizes they have and to have enough MLB quality fields available tbh. it's one thing when you're talking 16 hockey teams or whatever or 20 NBA teams with 15 man rosters.. The only spots that may be able to host that would be spring training sites and they are the two biggest covid hot spots

Are teams only playing against their own super division? They could have just done 6 different hubs or something like that.

NBA is playing in Florida. Hot spots don't matter if you're in a bubble. Now, maybe the rosters are too large and there are too many teams, but the location shouldn't matter if you're doing the bubble right.

It came down to the MLBPA not wanting to be away from their families for 2-3 months.

The fields are all over Florida. It's not like all the facilities are in one location. I don't think there was a feasible "bubble" for baseball at the end of the day

MLB proposed at least two options: a smaller divisional bubble around the spring training homes (the 'fields all over Florida' option) or a bubble with all 30 teams in Arizona. The MLBPA shot them both down because of being away from their families. The players can say whatever they want now about it being unsafe, but much of this is their own doing. If you can't play within a bubble and be safe, you shouldn't be playing at all.

It wasn’t a big mlbpa issue, probably because it never went very far in the process. Trout said something against it, but mlb never really had a plan in place. They noted available space and size of rosters. An mlb bubble in Florida isn’t like an nba bubble there. Fields are much more spread out, so it’s not really a bubble.

The MLBPA never allowed it to get very far in the process. I don't know the exact details of the proposals but it's well known that they were shot down by the players.

*edit* I should add that I understand it would be a lot harder logistically than the NBA and NHL. I understand that it would not be AS secure as either. But, it would absolutely be better than what they're doing now.
