I expect a bulk of those animals to be jettisoned when work/school is back on full swing.

Sadly, I was going to say the same thing. I'd bet a number of those people got pets just to keep them occupied during lockdown.

You may or may not be surprised by this, but you can buy damn near anything on eBay. Plenty of sellers have them: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R ... +&_sacat=0

eBay newbie here. So if I buy from this link
https://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Otocinclus-C ... SwodNetZ7-
Five fish costs $39.99. That $39.99 is for a lot of 5, no?

That listing is a little confusing with how they do their pricing, but yeah, 5 fish for $39.99 shipped.

Adopting this adorable little girl today. She's a huge purrhead, and the complete opposite of the other two kittens. Not the least bit shy, not really interested in playing, and wants to do nothing but cuddle.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a high-protein dry cat food? I've been working though a couple of bags of Purina One that my mother had purchased, but I think there's better stuff on the market. Both cats are too fat, and I've heard that a high-protein diet can help take care of that because cats will eat less with a higher protein food. I think my brother feeds his cats Blue Buffalo on his vet's recommendation. Anyone have comments on that?

Used to sell nutro, think that is a comparable brand. You'll want to slowly incorporate the new food. 25% for a little, then 50, and so on increments of 25

We use Blue Buffalo for our kittens. Like LBL said, if you start incorporating it into their diet, you can fully transition them over. I don't know about the high protein thing, but BB definitely has better ingredients than Purina One.

We've feed our critter Hill's Science Diet, which offers a variety of formulations depending on your needs (indoor, hairball control, kidney, age-specific, etc.).

My sister's dog, hanging out on the deck in the sun with his favorite toy.

There was nobody else on the deck when this was taken, but the bone seems to be a thing with him. He'll take that bone with him everywhere. It's not even like he is taking it around and trying to find somebody to play with. If he can't find the black one, he'll start searching the house for his other red one.

FWIW, Hill’s kidney formula is the most putrid smelling cat food on planet earth.

Took our two boys to the vet today for their first physical. One of them has a slight heart murmur. Gonna have to rub a blood panel next month to see what the next steps are. Which leads me to my query:

Anyone here have pet insurance, specifically for cats? I’m still on the fence in this regard - especially if the one kitten will now be disqualified from certain coverage because he now “has a heart condition”.

Nevermind. Most don't cover pre-existing conditions like a heart murmur, so **** 'em.

Guess whose cat has chronic kidney issues?

One of my previous cats was in the same boat. That food is crazy expensive, too.

Any one have a dog door? I am seriously considering one, but cutting a hole in my house has my anxiety up.

Any reason you can't/don't want to go with one built into a door?

The only door to our fenced in backyard is an all glass sliding door, so I want to go through the wall a few feet down from the door

If you want to avoid the "hole in my house" option, you could go with something like this:

Thanks. I've looked at those and I'm not crazy about them. I don't want to limit the amount the door can open. And it is more expensive than the traditional dog door.

I totally understand. Just wanted to give you options. I know I'd freak out if I had to take a sawzall to an exterior wall of my house.
