People were very respectful in our area last night. It sounded like a war zone from sunset until about 1030, at which point it quieted down quickly. It was actually cool looking around and seeing all of the aerial stuff.

Judging by all of the barking and crying, every dog in my neighborhood probably now has PTSD. The fireworks were non-stop from 7-10:30 or so. Surprisingly, our kittens spent half of the time in the window wondering wtf was going on outside.
On a related note, if you’re going to shoot off fireworks for hours on end, why not use different ones? Somebody on the next street over was shooting off the same lame ass white firework the entire night.

Most of the fireworks stopped at around 10:30, but they were still going on here and there through at least 1:30.

I’m personally against the new trend of not keeping score, but this kinda stuff seems really unnecessary.

I feel bad that my younger son retired from baseball - he really got burned out on it, as much as I got burned out on the politics involved with little league baseball. But when I see this type of thing - and this is from a travel tournament similar to the ones he played in for two years - I don’t feel bad at all.
Baseball will eat itself; starting at a young age. It’s not even MLB and how few watch or attend - it’s how players like my son are driven away from the sport. He was an above average talent, with a good work ethic. Now he despises it, and plays soccer when there isn’t a pandemic ruining things.
I won’t get started on minorities in the US in baseball, but the numbers are dwindling because of lack of playing fields, players can’t afford hitting coaches/travel teams/etc.

So this is the kind of crap Ian Desmond referenced in his “Opt Out of 2020” Instagram post. Had no idea that it was this ridiculous.

I umpired in an under-14 national tournament on Friday and there was definitely an overwhelming socioeconomic majority at the ballpark. There was also an under-12 tournament going on and at one point, I saw a team marching to the parking lot and every kid had a personalized equipment bag with at least one bat protruding from it. Knowing what I know about equipment cost in baseball nowadays, those parents are not pulling from unemployment checks. It has very much turned into a sport of the haves and have-nots at its grassroots level and that's pretty damn sad.

Another hour until beer again. I'm going to ruin this whole weekend.

That’s only because when you’re at a game, most of the time you’re not actually watching the game. At least, in my experience.

Well, yeah.
