COVID-19

Postby shafnutz05 » Mon Jun 29, 2020 1:06 pm

what will be interesting to see is how the hospitalization numbers will be in 2-3 weeks. this is the typical 'incubation' time for the patient to develop symptoms critical enough to require hospitalization. i am supportive of a 'wait and see' to evaluate what happens to the increase in younger people who are testing positive. asymptomatic positivitity rates remain low (less than 0.50%) which would suggest that the people testing positive now are moderately symptomatic and stable at home. if we reach mid july and hospitalization numbers remain constant - total numbers not % of positives - we will need to evaluate the decision knowing people will get sick (as with any communicable illness) vs socioeconomic impact of continuing shut down. until then, wash your hands, wear your mask, dont open mouth kiss strangers
Spot on
Yup, that's a great post. The fact that a significant plurality of positive cases now are younger people, we will soon have really good data to help guide future decisions.

Are the bars open in France, Italy, Spain and Germany? Are masks still used a lot there? They look very good with new cases over there, at least to me. Gaucho?

My federal agency is back peddling to full telework and away from their recent mandate of three days in the office per pay period. It doesn't affect me because I don't technically work for Pittsburgh, but it's worth noting as another restriction is put back in place.

Allegheny Co. Health Officials: Spike In New Coronavirus Cases Linked To Bars, Not Protests
https://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2020/06 ... -protests/
The case investigator asks people to provide information on any mass gathering that they may have been in the few days prior to being tested/showing symptoms.
In those investigations, a variety of bars and restaurants were named with several of them coming up multiple times.
They are throughout the county, but there are multiple times that bars and restaurants in Oakland and the South Side were listed.
Officials say the number of times someone has attended a protest is in the single digits, and most of the time they were not even at the same protest.
Disclaimer: This is Allegheny County specific. Take it however you'd like.

I've been to several protests in Pittsburgh over the past several weeks. Almost everyone is wearing a mask. I can also say that most everyone attending these protests are the type to want to stay home and not go to a bar during a pandemic. I would not be surprised if the protests do not appear to be having a negative effect on positive case counts.

That being said the organizers don't give 2 shits about covid at most of the protests I've gone to. They still want us to be close and I've heard "**** covid who cares if you catch it" more than once. That bothers me. Both issues are at the forefront of what is important right now.

EDIT: if you want to discuss the latter portion we can do so in the PDT

I picked up a bike for my son at Pro Bikes last Thursday in Monroeville. The employees at a Pro Bikes in Monroeville are not your everyday "but mah rights - 'merica!" types. However, not one employee was wearing a mask, and by proxy neither were the customers. I was the only one in the entire store wearing a mask. Stupidity knows no bounds.

I've been in two separate Wal-Marts and I didn't see their "face coverings required" sign displayed and and at the employee standing at the entrance wasn't saying anything to anyone not wearing a mask (about half the people). What changed?

https://news.ki.se/immunity-to-covid-19 ... have-shown
New research from Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital shows that many people with mild or asymptomatic COVID-19 demonstrate so-called T-cell-mediated immunity to the new coronavirus, even if they have not tested positively for antibodies. According to the researchers, this means that public immunity is probably higher than antibody tests suggest. The article will soon be freely available on the bioRxiv server and has been submitted for publication in a scientific journal.

I doubt they'd go back to yellow without first seeing if the bar closures help. Lemon lime as someone else said

They were pretty clear during the briefing that they have no plans to move back to the yellow phase. I wouldn’t expect anything for another 2 weeks at least to see if the bar closures help.

Is this gonna be a "closing the bars seemed to work and things have been better since so we should open them back up" thing?
