The black players that will have to deal with a coach who supports a network that says "Black Lives Matter" is a shame sure would care.

It's pretty tone deaf on Gundy's part.

I'm not going to get political in this thread but a major D1 program semi denouncing their coach for any reason is news

I read an article that posits that colleges are using fall athletes coming back for summer training as guinea pigs to see if campuses can reopen normally in August.

It’s a terrible idea, but makes a lot of sense.

The Ivy League was the first conference to cancel its postseason basketball tournament back in March.

Now the Ivies could be on the brink of another groundbreaking decision in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The League plans to announce its plans for fall sports on July 8, with several league sources saying the Ivies plan to move football to the spring.

“If I was placing a bet, I think it’s 98 percent, 99 percent likely that this thing is moving to the spring for the fall sports based on everything I’ve heard,” one Ivy League source said.

“The financial ramifications of whatever decision they’ve made, you need to have plenty of time to start working on those things. It’s not like they’re going to wake up the morning of the 8th and go with something. The decision’s been made.”

Another aspect of this that some have talked about, but I have not seen enough discussion about is if we cancel fall football, what does that mean for basketball? January start? Or other winter sports?

These athletic departments (and tv partners) can't afford too much of this.

My favorite part of this is when all the conferences do it and ND doesn't have a schedule

If this is true, it will end the Clemson-South Carolina matchup, the longest non-conference rivalry game going back to 1909.

My guess is that we don’t see fall sports until the spring, if at all.

And for smaller schools - like my own - they don’t have the facilities to share locker rooms and playing fields with fall and spring sports in one season. Like our soccer field doubles as a lacrosse and field hockey field. Practice time after class was tough with one field, and now they’ll have men’s and women’s teams from three sports trying to get practice time in after class etc. Yikes what a mess.

Good read on the financial consequences of cancelling non-conference games for Group of 5 schools.

It's not good for the MAC and the like. I'm curious if the P5 schools legally have an out on these pay games or if there's some sort of buyout.

Edit from the article

"Many if not all contracts include a force majeure clause, a provision excusing one or both parties’ obligations when circumstances arise beyond their control that make the contract impossible. Like, for instance, a global pandemic. However, there could be a legal opening, suggests another Group of Five AD. In the Big Ten’s case, the conference still plans to play football—just not against conference foes. “At the end of the day, is there going to be enough reason to stand on to get out of paying the guarantees?” asks the AD."

Interesting. I feel like if they play 8 games it may be hard to argue the non conference ones were impossible

South Carolina didn't have to pay Marshall a couple years ago when their game got canceled because of a hurricane.

I'm sure the same thing applies here.

ACC allowed for one non-conference opponent, but SEC won’t allow it. Clemson vs. University of South Carolina will end the second longest running rivalry game streak in football at 111 years.

This is one of those statements that sounds profound, etc... until you spend 5 seconds thinking about the implications of it.
