Game: Assemble the best team for this years playoffs

Post by Lelldorin »

I was a bit bored, but didn't have time until now :/

The idea is to assemble a roster with 2 goalies and 21 other players with a total cap-hit of less than the $81.5 million. My other restrictions are:
-only 3 ELC's are allowed.
-use the cap numbers on capfriendly for 19-20, e.q. Crosby is $8.7 million.
-no reductions or alterations due to injuries, e.g. Guentzel is $6 million.

There are probably other loop-holes, but I think you get the point.

I will make my team now...

Hmmm... a decent team anyway.

DeBrusk-MacKinnon-Draisaitl
McCann-Crosby-Guentzel
Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak
Sanford-Sundqvist-ZAR

Hedman-Shattenkirk
Slavin-Deangelo
Dumoulin-Marino

Khudobin
Merzlikins

The fourth line should just keep the puck out of the net and let the other lines rest.

You can probably make better teams by knowing more players strengths and account for handedness...

He said build the best team, so I did...

I could probably a cut a corner somewhere on the third pair and swap Rust in for Fiala...maybe take out Slavin and put in Makar or something...

Yeah, you're right...I don't have any 3rd line players on the team. If I need to keep the lead late, I'll put out PLD-Coots-TT / Slavin-Morrissey

I have my choice of the whole league, if I build a team that can't score more than four goals a game than I'm just a school boy b*tch...

Good team and plus points for three Swedes B) Josi should be an automatic choice.

But no Crosby? I am a sad panda now...

Yeah, Crosby was on the original team...but I future-proof'd the team just in case it was supposed to be a multi-year thing...

You did as I play computer and board games - always building with future in mind. But here, I was more interested in how the "best" team to win THIS year could look...

Crosby has a quite high cap hit in this game (it is quite nice IRL) but he can have two quite cheap grinders on his line and still be an annoying line to face (plus a scoring threat).

Haha yeah, as much as I'd like Sid, this team wins anyhow - in a walk. I could swap Scheif out for Sid and then swap out a d-man for an entry-level d-man like Makar and be better off probably...

Haha, I guess. What are the odds of our teams winning the cup (if the other is not present)
75% for your team and 50% for mine? Even with best of 7 series it is tough to win 4 series in a row...

At a glance...

My 1st liners: Huberdeau, MacKinnon, Pasta, Scheif, Teravainen, Pettersson...maybe Coots? (7)
My 2nd liners: Mantha, Bjork with bomb shots, Vrana, Fiala, Dubois (5)
My bottom six forwards: N/A (0)

Top pairing D: Josi, Jones, Klingberg, Slavin, Morrissey...maybe Ekholm? If not, he's a 2nd pair. (6)
Definite bottom 4D: N/A (0)

Starting goalies: Gibson, Jarry (2)
Backup goalies: N/A (0)

###

Your 1st liners: MacKinnon, Drai, Crosby, Guentzel, Marchy, Bergy, Pasta (7)
Your 2nd liners: N/A (0)
Your bottom six forwards: DeBrusk, McCann, Sanford, Sundqvist, ZAR (5)

Top pairing D: Hedman, Slavin...maybe Dumo? (3)
Definite bottom 4D: Shattenkirk, ADA, Marino (3)

Starting goalies: N/A (0)
Backup goalies: Elvis, Khudobin (2)

I like my odds... ;)

I bet you do ;)

I could swap in Josi and change goalies, but I would still have an inferior team. My first three lines would be quite difficult to handle anyway.

I was more meaning how large chance respective team would have of winning the cup. I don't have the bracket in my head, but essentially the odds of beating Philadelphia, Washington, Boston and St Louis.

Oh, our teams are probably working everyone behind the wood shed...if you can keep the puck out of your net (Shatty, ADA, the goaltending) you're good...if I don't get beat up, I'm good...
