The first episode of Disney Gallery was very good, focused on the directors of the first season. Robert Rodriguez and Peyton Reed have been confirmed for season two.

Dave Filoni wears various Penguins hats on the set of the Mandalorian, FWIW.

Also, his back must hurt from carrying the entire franchise these days. :pop:

I totally forgot that there's a scene of young Luke training young Leia in ROS. Makes me wish Lucas went ahead with episodes 7-9 back in the 80s.

Everything involving Leia in EpIX felt hamhanded and stupid. To a certain extent, that was unavoidable. But to a larger extent, the mishandling of the character was self-imposed by their insistence on doubling down on her role in the story.

Oh yeah this movie is a jumbled mess. I'm enjoying my re-watch at the moment, though. It's dumb but it's dumb fun.

Would’ve been nice if they kept that under wraps. Surprises are fun.

Also, I’d much rather him play a Clone Wars survivor (Rex? That’s somebody right?) instead of them forcing Boba Fett back into the universe. Dude is dead. Let him Rest In Peace.

We don't necessarily need a Boba Fett movie, but I think it's sorta badass to imagine him fighting his way out of the Sarlacc's belly and I think that would make for a good TV episode.

To me it encapsulates what is wrong with Star Wars. No new ideas and a big reliance on the past. Mando felt fresh. Bringing in a character who died 40 years ago was dumb in ROS and it would be dumb here too.

Well those were bad new ideas. /s

I guess I only care if it’s good. Maybe Boba Fett will be great. Rogue One wasn’t a new idea and that’s the best of the Disney bunch.

She looks a lot like her character. I wonder if that characters design was intentional.

Disney+ is hurting for new content, and it's not surprising that they're turning to Star Wars for it after the success of Mando. But damn, Disney. Remember when you put out too many Star Wars films in theaters and your CEO said you needed to slow your roll? You're doing it again.

Disney+ launched naming nearly a dozen original shows that would be put out on the format. Maybe 3 of them have aired so far? They are hurting for new content because htey are just talking about new content as opposed to putting out content.

I think it’s different with TV shows, especially moving away from Skywalker related things. Marvel/Disney re-invented the wheel with the MCU. Constant content that is tied together, but different focal points, characters, and genres throughout. A Cassian Andor spy drama, a bounty hunting babysitter, whatever a Boba Fett show would be, Obi-Wan chilling in the desert stalking a little kid, etc etc are all Star Wars but they’re not necessarily the same thing or overkill of the IP.

Mando was praised because it was good, but also different while feeling familiar. Rogue One is the best thing to come out of Disney’s Star Wars and a huge part of that is the ability to tie into a story that’s four decades old with completely different main characters and limited, but tangible, connections to a universe and story we know. The ST and Solo are where the issues of overkill come from. As long as it’s something different, they could release Star Wars related content every couple of months and probably be fine.

One of the key elements of Mandalorian that made it so good is that it was set in the Starwars universe and didn't have Star Wars related schtick outside of the very end of the last episode.

If the new D+ series are as good as Mando, none of this will matter. Quality trumps overexposure.

There's no question that if the first of the trilogy movies had not been captain safe, the second not been a Betty Friedan film, and the third one been full length movie equivalent of the third version of Monty Python and the Holy Grail opening credits then we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.
