Went to the liquor store, which was picked over and full of pandemonium. Managed to get the last two bottles of Casamigos añejo and the last bottle of Barr Hill Gin, but those ass bags were all out of Four Roses. I decided to try something new for the impending apocalypse and snagged a Wigle Pennsylvania Rye. I’ve never really liked Wigle’s offerings and I don’t particularly like rye, but this is pretty good. I like it much more than Dad’s Hat rye, which has a mashbill that is heavy on rye. The Wigle is sub-70 rye and is wheated, so it’s sweeter and less peppery. Pretty easy drinker and would go well in a cocktail, but at 84 proof it doesn’t stand up well to water or an ice cube.

The liquor store here had a line that was about halfway around the back of it. Holy crap was that place packed. I had enough at home to get me through for a bit, but I figured I'd hop in line and see how long it took. 10 Min. Not too shabby.

By the time I got to the whiskey aisle (the line went right past it, so I just got in line instead of browsing), I was pleasantly surprised to see how much was left. Grabbed a bottle of bulleit rye to hold me over. The line at that point was the rest of the way around the store and back out the door.

I got more bourbon today, and there didn’t seem to be any shortage (other than the fact that they don’t stock handles of four roses). When I got home I realized I now have six bottle of different bourbon... pleasantly surprised.

I am out of bourbon. Got cleaned out during that house party last weekend. Sad.

Found a 2019 documentary on Amazon Prime called Tin City, about a rag-tag fugitive band of wine makers and beer brewers in Paso Robles, CA. So very fun, looking forward to checking the place out some time in the future.

Anyone ever have the saffron Amaro from Wigle? I'm intrigued. I love that kind of stuff, and they currently have a pack that has it, a vermouth that they've made and a bourbon as well.

I know when wigle first started, I wasn't a huge fan of their stuff other than their bitters and their spiced rum which I liked. Wondering how they're doing these days.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm all out of campari, and the PA liquor store website has yet to allow me on to order anything.

Had a glass of Weller special reserve for the movie last night. Budget wheated bourbon be damned, this is a fine drink. Love the creaminess once the ice starts to melt.

Has anyone been able to get on to the PA liquor store website to order something? I've tried daily for the past week and I keep getting the message to try the next day.

I've tried the past 2 days and nada. Saw an article that some people randomly popped on at 5 PM and were able to get something. So I guess it's random when they open slots.

They should at least have something by IP address. “Oh, this address has tried for 8 straight days to get in? Maybe we should let him in.”

Apparently they are allowing you to order from non PLCB sites as well. Had not been able to previously but was able to this week.

As in private distilleries or out of state stores?

Yeah... hit me with a link if you could. I'm able to find PA distilleries that I can order from, but nothing like a liquor store that would ship here.

I ordered through caskcartel.com- Ordered Tuesday and my booze is en route from Jacksonville today. $15 shipping on a $31 bottle of vodka but gotta do what you gotta do.

Whether this is actually legal or not I don't know but I looked at 2 sites and both had removed PA from their "we can't ship to these states" list. The other was Astor out of NYC but they are not shipping my order till May 6. They have free shipping over $100.

We'll see if the PLCB actually allows my bottles to arrive at my house.

For the wine drinkers out there, you might want to consider a négociant like Cameron Hughes in these Dark Times. I mean, CH is a great resource, usually, offering 90-point wines for under $20 a bottle. But in these times of dire need, it might be a good idea to stock up.

After exhausting our "good" wine, black box and quantity over quality has taken over my life. the good Bourbon is still going strong though!

I believe in PA it is legal to order wine directly from Wineries so there's that option.
