Now there’s an idea.

Really liked him when he was on the Pitt beat. Have to imagine this is “there’s no sports for months” related.

This soon though? Or preemptively? I know the Trib has had financial problems, but subscribers aren't bailing after a week... Advertisers probably not yet.

Add Seth Rorabaugh to the list of laid off sportswriters:

Isn’t Seth always getting laid off and changing outlets?

Heard on the fan:

“Thanks bob for being there during tough times, hey bob what do you think about lay-trobe this summer backs on backers who you got TJ vs Derek Watt”

He was laid off from the PG and now the Trib. No surprise as they are the traditional outlets. He was at DKPS for a cup of coffee and then The Athletic for a bit. I think he left on his own both of those places. Hopefully the Trib can hire him back in a few months but where else can he go now..a blog?

Poni has been doing that annoying thing where sports media keep repeating something in hopes it picks up enough steam and gets widely circulated as some kind of truth (and they are the source) i.e Poni beating the dead horse about Jameis to the Steelers.

He also does this annoying thing where he quotes someone and he gives you their credentials on why they are a credible source. Like Ed Bouchette: "in the Pro Football Hall of Fame" or LaVar Arrington: "WPIAL and Penn State legend"

I actually agree with his premise there.

I can’t find the tweets now but someone said his wife made more money than him, his co-workers hate him and then Pittsburgh Dad Jr. went off on a tweetstorm.

Madden has terrible taste in music. He must have been 16 in 1978.
Aside from that awful Zeppelin ripoff band that came out 2-3 years ago, I don't think Madden listens to anything released after 1980.

ESPN will be 24x7 SportsCenter (talking about what??)
ESPNNews: Will show live feeds of ESPN radio shows
ESPN 2: A combination of the above

Yeah, they are missing out not showing ESPN Classic stuff. People would rather see classic games and such than Scott Van Pelt speculating about stuff for an hour for thins we don’t know the answer to yet. And why make your studio staff come in to work? But I’m sure $$$ is involved.

Oh yeah, I forgot that NFL free agency is going to start on time as usual so ESPN will probably have 24x7 Brady Watch for weeks. Fantastic.
Two weeks later, ESPN is still talking about Tombrady, ESPN2 was simulcasting whatever morning show was on and placing a logo on the screen for said show. Not quite sure what ESPN News has done. I'm gonna guess continuous updates on what is closed, potential return dates, and 15 minutes of chatter about Tampa's latest signing.

ESPN should have years upon years of sports in their vault. Why not just start a rotation of football one day, baseball the next, college sports, etc.

Fox Sports 1 is broadcasting eSports and old games. They were advertising an MLS game from 2018. Good effort at least.

It's honestly been 3+ weeks since I've listened to The Fan or The X. It's been pretty nice, actually.

I flipped over a few days into this all starting to see how they're handling it w/o any games. Literally the very first word I heard out of Starkey's mouth was "Buffalo" and I switched the channel. So evidently nothings changed from even when we had sports.

I tuned in to Cook and Joe today and Cook sounded like he was talking in a bathroom. He was complaining he was working from a closet with just a computer and no TV and how Pomp has a bar in his man cave. Does Cook live in a shack or something?

channel check:
ESPN: Sportscenter covering leagues that are canceled, players that are positive, players that are donating, NFL CBA info. In other words, the usual for the last two weeks.
ESPN2: replay of First Take. For some reason it doesn't have sound. I'm not complaining.
ESPN News: replay of Will Cain Show, with a still logo of The Will Cain Show on the screen
FS1: replay of Undisputed.
FS2: replay of boxing
NHLn: they've been running old Red Wings games and interviews all afternoon
TSN1: running yet another top 10/top 100 show
Sportsnet One: replay of Provincal Curling Alberta, Boston Pizza Cup Final

You would think replaying classic games would be higher ratings than that stuff. So much they could do instead. Who is watching Sportscenter all day?

When I was a kid and it was Rich Eisen and Stuart Scott, I'd watch the same replay over and over all morning.

CBS apparently owns the tourney games. Rather than CBSSN apparently infinitely replaying the Laettner shot game vs Kentucky, just start with the 2019 tourney, play all the games, then 2018 and work back till sports comes back. It’s CBSSN. Nobody is watching anyway.

Stop for Rome if you must.

Poni is really pushing the Winston to the Steelers as a back-up thing.
