How old is he? His parents "won't let him" fly to Atlanta? He's about to join the Navy but isn't allowed to go to Atlanta?

Right. There are plenty of ways to meet up safely but the whole thing about his parents not allowing him is weird.
Have they talked on FaceTime or just text? Could she bring a friend with her to Dallas? Definitely meet in a public place. Definitely don't get in his car. And definitely don't fall for the "share a cab" bit.

I get the 21st century "met online" thing. my SO and I met online on IRC in 1995 and we're still together. the first time we met IRL though she didn't fly to ATL by herself and when we actually met it was in a public place. part of my concern is where is she staying? his house? because that's just crazy. if not, is he paying for a hotel for her? that's pretty nuts too. she only has a part-time job so she has no money to get her own hotel. I might feel differently if we had any family or friends in Dallas but we don't. the closest family we have is a cousin in Houston. my brother is trying to convince his ex-wife (the most selfish woman in the world) to go with her.
That's what makes it shady.
Everything else about that post seems normal for the 21st century. While I was in college I met a girl online and our first meet was a Barnes & Noble, and our second was at her work where she knew where all the security cameras were.

Oh no, you're right to be concerned. There's a way to do this safely, but its with your car and your own hotel that the other person has no claim to so you can bail ASAP. Facetime with the parents would even be a decent option, even if that feels a bit childish.I get the 21st century "met online" thing. my SO and I met online on IRC in 1995 and we're still together. the first time we met IRL though she didn't fly to ATL by herself and when we actually met it was in a public place. part of my concern is where is she staying? his house? because that's just crazy. if not, is he paying for a hotel for her? that's pretty nuts too. she only has a part-time job so she has no money to get her own hotel. My wife's coworker got "catfished" so to speak. She met a guy on Tinder, he was working here in KC as a lineman and his home was in Omaha. They developed what she thought was a really good relationship and wound up getting pregnant on an oops. When the baby came he mysteriously got into a car accident on the way to the hospital. His parents took him in back in Omaha. He asked if his sister could come see the baby since he couldn't make it. Oh his parents really wanted to meet the baby too. Etc.
It was at this point her friends started cyber snooping and found out he was married with three kids in Omaha and had just posted pictures of them at an amusement park. Worst case scenario they were trying to steal her baby, best case he's a sick ****. We told her to move, become unlisted, and call the police. Nothing formal ever could be proven, but at least the dude is in a case file somewhere if anything ever happens to that precious little girl.

I know I'm just echoing others...but yeah. That's not a good idea. He should be flying to *her* first , at a minimum, to allow the family to meet, etc.

This situation is comprised entirely of red flags, nopes, do-not-do-this, and are-you-stupid-why-are-you-even-considering-doing-this.I'm pretty sure I know what most of the (serious) responses here will be but I just need my opinion validated on this:
my 20 year old niece wants to fly to Dallas by herself to meet some guy that she chats with on the interwebs. her dad and I are trying to convince her that this is not safe. the basic story is that this guy (supposedly the same age) is joining the Navy soon and they want to meet up before that happens. she says that his parents won't let him fly to ATL to meet her so he bought her an airline ticket to come to Dallas and see him. maybe I watch too much SVU but this throws up all kinds of red flags for me.
thoughts? suggestions? concerns?

If all urinals are being used and you have to use a stall, do you shut the door?
Yes - it is a stall
No - it is now a urinal

Yes, if only because the stall door keeps hitting me in the back/ass whilst I'm peeing.

I've debated this too...I've been going more with "yes" because it's occupied...and I'd rather not have a situation where someone is walking in there on his phone and like walks into me, or into the door, next thing ya know, there's piss everywhere...there's no risk with the door closed, there's no misconception...door open, you run the risk of an idiot idioting your day up...
The only real advantage of door open is no touching involved...

No. we are all grown ups and can hear what is going on in the stall.

this is a great point and makes it acceptable. I only close the door if it's a nuisance.Yes, if only because the stall door keeps hitting me in the back/ass whilst I'm peeing.

If it's a sporting event or something where there is a crazy amount of people, I will keep the door open even if it is causing problems. I'd say about 8% door closure rate for me

Shut the door, it's best to avoid the awkward situation where someone pushes the door into you.

Nobody is seeing anything, so I leave the door open. It is now a urinal.

If there is a door, shut the damn door.
