You can see the news helos from my grocery store parking lot. Crash site is just the other side of the hill from where I'm sitting right now.
Other reports were saying he was on his way to the Grammys tonight. Which doesn't add up; that would be like a dude from Altoona being killed in Johnstown on his way to State College.

Popped in to see if the Kobe news made it here and saw this first. I’m sorry to hear that, Tony.My dad died last night. He's had a myriad of health problems over the last 7 years and has spent the last three months in the hospital and various rehab centers, but he wasn't getting any stronger. He'd told me repeatedly that he didn't want to live like this and that he just wanted to die so I know he's "better" off now but it's still such a shock. And my mom's an absolute wreck.

Yea I’m not sure how that slipped in there. Somebody is about to lose their job.I get that Los Angeles isn't really renowned for its lakes, but that MSNBC news anchor's new team name recommendation is probably not gonna be widely accepted...

I remember back when Princess Diana died, how a coworker tried to explain to me why she was so grief-stricken about it--something about they were both recently divorced with 2 boys."I'm Mexican, so Kobe meant a lot to me." -- guy in DTLA on my TV just now, for some reason.
As weird as it sounds, sometimes it's hard to articulate why people, places, and things mean something to us. Sometimes we don't even know why, especially when it involves people we've never personally met, places we've never actually been, etc. We just know we feel something.
It makes little sense, kind of like this post.
I never expected to spend most of today thinking about Vanessa Bryant and her other 3 daughters. The youngest is only, what, 7 months old?

I feel less affected personally than most about this as your typical Pittsburgh basketball fan- big on college, not so much NBA. Kobe was injured the one Laker game I attended in Cleveland. I didn’t watch him play much.
My daughter, about Kobe’s daughter’s age, however is a big Lakers fan since watching the ESPN Celtics vs Lakers 30 for 30 with me. Magic is her guy but she knows all about Kobe. It has been hard discussing it with her. She asked specifically when their next game will be on. (Tuesday, assuming they play.)

Ehhhh, I don't know about that. TMZ was first and on point. They behaved much better than those that scrambled and got stuff wrong, like Rick Fox and all the daughters being on the flight.

TMZ was the only outlet to report things that were factually correct.
I mean ABC broke into the Pro Bowl and announced all four daughters were dead.
