A promotion you wanted? I'm jealous...After a 2.5 month process, I was named Director of Marketing and Development today. It’s been a stressful couple months and now I look forward to the challenge.
Congrats man

Thanks all. This is about as high up the ladder as I can get here and I have about 11 years until retirement, so it's good.
Certainly will have a new set of headaches, but it should be good. Several people have retired so I have the chance to shape the Division as I see it for the extended future.

I got an invite to a call and accepted with response to the guy in about 15 seconds because I'm at my desk looking at my e-mail. 15 seconds later I get a tap on the shoulder, "did you see that invite I just sent you?" Holy hell. Yes. I saw it. It was 30 seconds ago.
After the call, I told the guy that I have a particular study in mind to send to the customer, I just need to find it. "I will send it to you once I find the one that I want to send." Our website is set up that if you download a study, our sales crew gets notified of the download. So while I'm reading/skimming some of the studies, I get a phone call from the guy "Are these notifications a hint for me of what you want me to send? Or are you going to send me the paper?" "Uhhh... yeah, I'm just reading to find the right one. Like I said in the meeting, I'll send you the one I want you to send."
This man needs to retire. He's been demoted to the point where he's bored with his job. Time to hang up the coat old man.

Had my annual review yesterday. My employer, a struggling value investing wealth management firm, knows I am looking elsewhere for more pay, responsibility, opportunity, etc.
Their proposal to me is that they would like to make me their data manager and director of analytics... but because of the company’s financial situation and current pay freeze they cannot offer me a pay raise or formal promotion, so they moved me into a larger office, decreased my revenue sharing bonus by less than anyone else in the company, and invited me to “cut my teeth” on any of the proposed projects with the knowledge that it would be very much appreciated and hopefully they can formalize a promotion in 2021.
Nice try guys. A for effort.

sorry about your luck..
my company isn't doing too great financially either. We're in cost containment and a hiring freeze. Luckily, salaries haven't yet been impacted. But no more lunches in day-long meetings... unless you're the risk management group, who had the 4 large conference centers booked off yesterday with a fully catered 'outside service provider expo' where we wine and dine our potential vendors... call me crazy but... shouldn't that be the other way around?

Whew, tough pill to swallow double D. At least you're looking - the writing is on the wall.
I work for a Fortune 300 company, and just had my review last week. I asked for a raise beyond the 2-3 percent cost of living raise I've received for the past 8 years. Boss wasn't against it, and even said he'd do it if it wasn't for the recent merger and the move to a different way of ranking engineers at the company. He said he'd slot me in at a level just below promotion, so I'm sure to get a promotion next year.
Tough one for me to call. I've been in the workforce for 20 years, and similar "promises" have been made to me before with none coming to fruition. I'll probably give them the year to make on their promise but if nothing comes of it, it will be time to start putting out feelers.

See my last paragraph. I'm well aware of the old "promotion promise" gimmick.

I was looking at my available time off this year... 144 regular hours + 32 hours of "floating holidays" -- 22 days pretty much. I have 60 hours of sick time to use if need be, plus all the normal holidays off (7 I think). I never realized I had that much time off per year haha.

I am always surprised when I hear about employers that still have "sick time". Seems like all-inclusive PTO has taken over.

The only difference with our sick time is we can roll that over year to year, normal vacation time you cannot. I assume that is the only reason it's a separate bucket.

That's what we do in FedGov. Leave is capped at 240 hours carryover, sick leave goes forever and is tacked onto the end of our career when it comes time to calculate pension.

Not to the organization. Dedicated sick time means you’re working more often, and if you quit (in most states), they don’t have to pay you that time. My last employer had separate buckets for sick, personal and vacation time. Garbage. My current employer gives us a bucket to use how we see fit, which is perfecto. We are capped, but it’s some absurd number like 450-500 hours.Yeah, that's very weird and pointless...

Our company is considering unlimited sick time, and X amount of vacation. Not sure if I like the idea or not. I suppose it depends on what they define as sick time.

We still have separate sick and vacation leave. Sick is capped to 110 days, and vacation to 40 days. Or something like that.

The issue is that we are "so efficiently staffed" that I am unable to take all of my vacation days. We simply do not have enough people to cover the hours the building is open. It's ridiculous.
