Clicker time yesterday afternoon was enjoyable as expected. Friars gutted out a 1 point win with sub 40% FT shooter (seriously? Shouldn't any shlub off the street who has never seen a basketball be able to make 40% of their free throws?) Nate Watson hit his second of 2 with .7 seconds left.

Then PSU, just wow. Another win over a ranked team yesterday. Very nicely done. Keep it up.

Was able to watch the end of Providence-DePaul and thought the Friars got hosed on that 3 free throws call to tie it. No way in hell that dude was gonna shoot it. He was gonna force a pass to the guy cutting away from him to the right wing. No idea how the calling official couldn’t discern that. Right team ended up winning.

Followed it up with a nice win at MQ. Keep winning conference games and they will overcome the crummy OOC start.

Clutch shots at the end of regulation and then in OT and nice work keeping Howard under wraps in the last 90 seconds. Though that foul on Bailey's 3 needs to be addressed. They're lucky that Bailey clanked the final free throw. If they're gonna get to the Tourney, they're gonna have to tear up the conference since the OOC was so bad.

Yes. Williams said it was his least talented team he's ever coached. I can't believe he said that out loud, but it is what it is.

KU-KState in a brawl to end it, and near as I can tell three Jayhawks jumped a dude in street clothes (who was probably associated with K-State) including De Sousa trying to break a chair over a dude in full WWE fashion.

Just saw the video of that and that was ugggggly. Will be interesting to see what kind of suspensions get handed out for that one. There was really no need for any of that crap. The K-State player got what he deserved by getting spike blocked but de Sousa had no business doing what he did and that escalated things. Would love to know who the dude was in the street clothes that was getting involved in that. Just completely unnecessary all the way around.

Looks like de Sousa stands over him, there’s some jawing as KState players come off the bench, dS gets pushed by a wildcat and hen starts throwing hay makers. At that point the dude in street clothes (grad assistant or some other KSU member) jumps over people to go after dS. Two Jayhawks then take the dude in street clothes to last row of floor seating and start stomping him while dS grabs a chair.

Dude who pushed dS-1 game
Street clothes dude - removed from team
dS - removed from team
Two other Jayhawks 1 month suspension

You just can’t go into the stands man, never.

Big road win for State at Michigan tonight. A couple really nice wins after the 3 game losing streak.

Suspensions handed out in the Kansas-Kansas State disaster:

De Sousa -- 12 games
McCormack -- 2 games
Love (dude in street clothes who had only played one game this season) -- 8 games
Gordon (guy who came off of K-State's bench to escalate it) -- 3 games

Villanova could not have tried harder to hand the Friars a win today but they refused to take it. Took 15 more shots than Nova, 3-23 from 3.

I realize he's not out on the court shooting but disappointing performance by my man Ed Cooley this season. Be insanely lucky to come back and end the season .500.

There's really no rhyme or reason to much of anything going on in college hoops this season. But what it lacks in dominant teams, it makes up for with some exciting games and a lot of 'who knows what's gonna happen today' situations. It's a mess trying to handicap on a night-by-night basis and I'm sure the bracket is gonna be a real challenge in March.

Beginning my 4th annual college hoops trip tonite. First stop - Auburn at Arkansas. Now that we’re in February, I’m due for another update on this silly season. That will be forthcoming.

Gigantic win for State tonight. Was sure MSU was going to fly by them early in the 2nd but the Lions stood their ground. 5 in a row overall, 3 straight on the road.

As Jekyll and Hyde as Sparty has been this year, they've at least had the Hyde part at home and have been hammering opponents so far. That's an immensely impressive win out of the Lions to go into EL after Sparty hiccuped against Wisky and give them a 2nd straight loss. These guys seem to be really putting it together and doing something that not many teams have done in the conference -- win 3 straight road games.

As for the rest of the country, it's all kinds of topsy-turvy. We're looking at a first where the the 4 #1 seeds could all come from west of the Mississippi. I don't see Gonzaga or SD State losing more than 2 games between them the rest of the way so they'll lock up a pair of 1's. Baylor has been really impressive in the first half of the conference season, including whipping KU at the Phog back in mid-January. East of the Mississippi, it's a mishmash of above average to mediocrity. Anyone could win the Big Ten. Anyone could win the Big East. Anyone could win the AAC. The ACC is a lot of blah outside of Duke, Louisville, and Florida State. Down in the mid-major world, keep an eye on Northern Iowa and if they can make it thru their conference tournaments -- Liberty, Yale, East Tennessee State, and Loyola-Chicago (Sister Jean is still kicking). As for your player of the year, I have to agree with the Athletic in giving the midseason award to Dayton's Obi Toppin. He lit up Maui and nearly willed them to that championship. Dayton's only two losses are in overtime (Kansas & Colorado). I know I'll be spending the next month trying to catch a few of their games.

First game of the basketball trip goes to overtime. I'll take three more just like that. And hearing the calling of the Hogs in a 12,000-seat arena after the home team has hit a couple of 3's going into a timeout is pretty impressive.
