He probably died.

Also, on the McGwire bit, how is Sammy Sosa getting more votes than him?

Are Bonds and Clemens seemingly getting closer than they have been in recent years?

McGwire is no longer Hall eligible. Fell off the ballot after 2016 once he was not elected for 10 consecutive ballots.

Bonds and Clemens have been going up, I believe. Looks like it will be very close for walker.

Because manny tested positive?
Jayson Stark published an article on his ballot and made a point on Manny that I felt i agreed with. There were basically two PED eras - one in which pretty much everyone was on them (McGwire, Bonds, Clemens etc. era) and a 2nd one in which they actually tried to get rid of PEDs... I'll just quote him.
There wasn’t just one PED era, in my mind. There were really two. There was that era with no testing, no discipline and no way of knowing who the heck was doing what. But then there was that era that began in 2005, when baseball finally implemented testing, suspensions and a legitimate effort to grapple with its darkest scandal in a generation.

If our friend Manny had just done what he’d done — by which I mean compile numbers that rank him among the greatest right-handed hitters who ever stepped into a batter’s box — in that first era, I’d vote for him, for exactly the same reasons I vote for Bonds and Clemens. But that isn’t Manny’s story. He didn’t merely get himself suspended twice in that second era. He racked up more PED suspensions than everyone else on this ballot combined. So … no check for him!
I know it's a bit hypocritical to say this steroid user is okay to get in and this one isn't.. but whatever.

Yeah, that makes sense. I agree there’s a difference.

Maybe the one person who didn’t vote for Jeter is also the one person who did vote for JJ Putz.

Kent, like McGwire, needed more great years.

Kent leads all 2B ever in HR, XBH.. highest 2B slugging % since Roger Hornsby 83 years ago. Tough to say no to that imo

Yeah, but 13th in hits, 12th in runs, somewhere in the 30s in OBP, and 19th in WAR among second basemen. Also had second most strikeouts. Great power hitting second baseman, but not a top second baseman and not a top power hitter, and you’ve got to be one of those to be HOF imo.

Jeff Kent was an unlikable dadhole who didn’t get along with teammates or the media. He never had a shot regardless of numbers.

I remember when he injured himself popping wheelies on his motorcycle.

On the other hand, I'm really happy for Larry Walker. Guy is a stand-up dude.

Saw something similar that discussed Yu Darvish getting LIT THE **** UP in the WS against the Astros, which played a role in him getting less than expected on the open market and really messed with his head, confidence, and mechanics because he believed he was tipping his pitches and tried changing things up, and then completely sucked when he got to the Cubs.

The counterpoint to that is he still got paid a **** ton and **** the Cubs.

Gotta hand it to the Astros. It’s hard to become more unlikable after cheating your way to a World Series, but hiring Dusty Baker makes that a mission accomplished.

Can't imagine that having unfolded any better, unless of course this revelation leads to Darvish being good for that **** franchise.

This is a good read on how badly MLB has bungled this whole thing:

It includes a link to this insanely stupid Jess Mendoza take:

I hope teams bang on cans all season long to mess with the heads of whomever they're playing.
