Blow it up, you can get meaningful pieces for Bell and Marte. I'd like to hang onto Reynolds.. Newman - I don't see anyone giving up anything of any worth.

Not trading Vazquez for anything less than Lux was a good move at the time, but man getting nothing for him really hurts right now

Honestly, I'm good with the blow-up. Don't blow smoke up our ass saying that this team can compete, when it can't. Get young, get actually good at scouting and developing and go full Marlins/Athletics.I think everyone should be OK with a blowup. Reynolds/Bell/Newman isn't a playoff contending core, and bell is going to be a free agent after 2022 anyways. Hayes and Tucker seem to be major league contributors, but are they part of a playoff contending core? And the starting rotation stinks.Looking at the comments from this Cherington presser, there's a 100% chance he blows the team up in 2020.

I'd be OK with them waiting until the trade deadline to blow things up. Give guys a chance to have new management under their belts, and see if they can improve their market price.

i don't care when it is, do it when max value can be obtained for the pieces we have

We'll get Stallings and Diaz and we'll like it. Is there really any other way this will go?

Stallings looks like an ideal #2. Diaz was one of the worst players in baseball last year. I imagine they will sign someone to time share with Stallings and expose Diaz to waivers.

I should clarify though, when I say sign someone, this is not a signing to improve the team, it's signing a ML caliber player. Diaz had no business being on the active roster last year, they to sign someone so they have have two catchers.

The article says they will likely let Diaz go and bring in someone else suggesting Russell Martin as a possibility. We'll get Stallings and Diaz and we'll like it. Is there really any other way this will go?

The Pirates set their roster in advance of the 2019 Rule 5 Draft tonight, selecting the contracts of right-handers Blake Cederlind and Cody Ponce as well as infielders Ke’Bryan Hayes, Will Craig and Oneil Cruz. In a corresponding series of moves, the Pirates have designated lefty Williams Jerez and right-handers Dario Agrazal, Montana DuRapau and Luis Escobar for assignment.

Just looked through GMBC’s drafts from 2012 through 2015
TBH they were shitty outside of Andrew benetendi.

Logan Allen and Kopech may turn out alright but man yeah, not even anyone that made any impact or even got to be a highly rated prospect besides Benitendi. Shoutout to the Jeff Driskel pick in 2014 though

Betts was drafted in 2011, he could have maybe been part of that?

Yeah him and Bogaerts are two guys that were acquired during his tenure but while he was part of the organization. I don’t know how much credit a GM or a assistant deserves for drafts and signings but i do know that the 5af pirate crew dedicated a lot of work hours bashing the hell out of the pirates drafting over the past 30 years.Betts was drafted in 2011, he could have maybe been part of that?

Chavis was a good pick.
Devers was signed during the Cherington era. Kopech and Moncada were both brought in by Cherington and used to acquire Sale. So basically, Cherington built that powerhouse team.
And I'm guessing it was Cherington who executed the trade that sent the Dodgers a quarter million in payroll (Gonzalez, Beckett, and Crawford).
I would imagine that GMBC is all in on the international market, which is where the Pirates have been very active in recent years. As for the draft, if you remove the hits that teams get from their top of the draft selections, the only teams who have success in the later rounds are the Dodgers and Cardinals. He whiffed on Trey Ball in 2013, but otherwise his draft record is good in the first round (relative to where they were choosing).

Bashing the drafting cannot go without bashing the development. The two went hand in hand. Perhaps GMBC deserves some credit for the development of players.Yeah him and Bogaerts are two guys that were acquired during his tenure but while he was part of the organization. The more I think of the GM position, the more I see the "M" being the important part of the description. Have a good plan/strategy and get the right guys in there to do the real work. FGMNH was no bueno in that department.

I don't understand why they dropped Escobar. There are still some absolute trash pitchers on the 40 man, Maybe it has to do with options, I guess it's better to have some scrubs like Holmes and Neverauskas that they can option to Indy with no threat of them being claimed. They would have to likely keep Escobar on the 25 man, and he still needs more time in the minors. The Pirates set their roster in advance of the 2019 Rule 5 Draft tonight, selecting the contracts of right-handers Blake Cederlind and Cody Ponce as well as infielders Ke’Bryan Hayes, Will Craig and Oneil Cruz. I don't get the move either. Escobar has good stuff and is only 23. Saw a lot of dodinting online and frowny faces about Agrazal. Dude is a nothing pitcher who put up ass stats. Jettisoning players like that is the first step to turning this ship around.I don't understand why they dropped Escobar. He throws hard as ****. I imagine that alone is enough to earn him a shot with a new front office and coaching staff.Someone must really love Dovydas to keep him around this long.
The Pirates best players left exposed in the draft will be Escobar (if not claimed), James Marvel, and Lolo Sanchez.

I don't think he'll get claimed, but I could see him going in the Rule 5 Draft given his former prospect status and the expansion to a 26 man roster. No one is claiming Escobar

I bet Escobar is claimed. Plenty of teams could see him as a potential bullpen piece and try and stash him

That's what I meant. Didn't think of waivers, but I don't believe teams will use a rule 5 pick on him. We'll seeI don't think he'll get claimed, but I could see him going in the Rule 5 Draft given his former prospect status and the expansion to a 26 man roster. No one is claiming Escobar
