The Lighthouse.

To quote a famous tv character: "Well I don't know what I expected."

What was expected though was great mise en scene, scenery-chewing acting, and a couple really memorable shots. :thumb:
:thumb: looking forward to this
Hope you enjoy! The sum of its parts are definitely greater than the whole.

I've never heard of that and by the sounds of it, that's probably a good thing
It's a Disney Channel movie from 1999. My fiancé is around 4 years younger than me, which doesn't seem like much now but considering when I was 16, she was 11 so our Disney nostalgia doesn't always line up.

Mrs Tif is six years older than me, and our misalignments tend to center around music from the 70s. She calls my lack of knowledge on that 'The Dearth'. To which I shoot back, "Oh yeah? Can you name all the F1 world champion drivers and constructors in order? Oh you can't......... well, who's got the dearth now, eh?" Which, honestly, doesn't really accomplish anything.

Only cast in the role like 5 years ago. Shazam 2 was originally slated to film next summer as well, so I won't be surprised if Dwayne Johnson films those two back to back because the Shazam kids aren't going to stay young forever.

Thanks to D+ (and Netflix for some) I have started a complete re-watch of the MCU. First up: Iron Man. I forgot how good this movie is. In a way, I miss when the world within the MCU felt smaller and more simplistic.

*edit* Iron Man 2. Not nearly as good. Also, I skipped The Incredible Hulk because it wasn't available to stream anywhere and that movie doesn't matter at all.

"Cage, if deals close, would star as actor Nicolas Cage. The character is desperate to get a role in a new Tarantino movie while also dealing with a strained relationship with his teenage daughter. He also occasionally talks to an egotistical 1990s version of himself who rides him for making too many crappy movies and for not being a star anymore.

But wait, there's more:

The Cage character is also under a mountain of debt and finds himself forced to make an appearance at the birthday party of a Mexican billionaire who happens to be a fan of Cage’s work and secretly hopes to show him a script on which he’s been working.

While he bonds with the man, Cage is informed by the CIA that the billionaire is actually a drug cartel kingpin who has kidnapped the daughter of a Mexican presidential nominee, and is recruited by the U.S. government to get intelligence. The situation spirals even more dramatically when the Mexican brings over Cage’s daughter and his ex-wife for a reconciliation, and when their lives are on the line, Cage takes on the role of a lifetime."

I bought them all (except The Incredible Hulk) on 4K bluray and we've been doing the same. We're up to Winter Soldier so far.

MI: Fallout

Great action flick. Really enjoyable. Henry Cavill is a beast and I’m glad he didn’t shave the stache for Superman.

Now that’s a bad take. It’s not about women. It’s about nobody wanting another Charlies Angels. Captain Marvel made over a billion dollars internationally (and 150 mil opening weekend domestic) but tell me more how men don’t go see women do action movies.

She didn't say it in the context as the tweet frames it. She said, before the movie's release: "Getting people off their couches to pay a babysitter, buy dinner, buy popcorn” is a tough ask.

“Look, people have to buy tickets to this movie, too. This movie has to make money,” she says, plainly.

“If this movie doesn’t make money it reinforces a stereotype in Hollywood that men don’t go see women do action movies.”

And she even says it's a Hollywood stereotype, meaning studios/execs feel this way, she isn't blaming male moviegoers.

I actually think that movie looks fun, but there is zero chance I'm going to dish out that kind of cash to see it in a theater

Tony’s the real MVP for actually reading the article since twitter nonsense clearly doesn’t convey the actual message.

It's ridiculous what "journalism" has been reduced to. They take a quote out of context in which Banks is questioning Hollywood executive's attitude that male moviegoers won't come out to see a female starting/female directed action flick and run with "Banks blames men for her own failures!" Now the online idiot brigade is lambasting Banks, calling her sexist, a moron, a hack, etc. Absolutely revolting.

That’s not journalism, IMO. And 99% of Twitter is just awful. I only have an account to follow work-related people, which is the only area that I believe Twitter provides value.

It's not that men don't want to see female action leads...... to me, it seems more like action movies with female leads tend to just not be very good; that is always the first responsibility of the filmmakers, and it seems that is very frequently lacking in these films. Nobody rushed out to see Aeon Flux, but T2 was huge. Ghost In The Shall tanked because it was crap, not because it ws ScarJo; conversely, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon had two female leads, and won multiple Oscars and was an international phenomenon.

Look at the 20 or so highest grossing movies with female leads, half of them are Disney/Pixar shows, 4 are Hunger Games and Twilight, 3 from Star Wars, and 2 superhero shows. That leaves Mama Mia!, Gravity, and Titanic.

Make good movies.
