Yeah my apartment. It's only a bed, box mattress, TV, nightstand, and a dresser. I'm literally only moving it about 10 miles.

I told him I paid for it to be moved today, it has to be moved today.
I would have been happy to lend you my van.

It wasn't Mythbusters, though. I think it was a local news story ahead of Carmageddon, but I don't remember fully.

How’d that work out?

I am currently sitting at my parent's house, because the guy never showed up. I gave him til 8 PM.

I packed everything so staying the night wasn't an option (plus, it was 86 degrees in my room there at 8 PM, so I'm going to take the AC). I went almost 12 hours without eating anything because the moving company did not communicate the situation to me. Beyond frustrated right now, and I cannot take work off tomorrow.

The issue was more needing professionals to move a dresser. I can't move that myself and it requires some tact when moving (clearance is an issue).

Yeah, tif, that was from me, because I know I've mentioned that Mythbusters episode in a previous discussion about traffic.

I use cruise control a lot. Is there chance that could lead to some sort of mechanical issue?

No. It's actually easier on the car because the inputs are more subtle than if you were doing them yourself.

Is there any value in selling after market, used TVs that are still in good shape? And if so, where would one get the best bang for their buck probably?

Not really, IMO. Craigslist would be the easiest, but you'll have to filter out people trying to give you $3 and a used condom wrapper for a $1200 TV. I know people who use Facebook Marketplace, but I've never used it personally. I was going to sell my old, mint condition 65" Samsung, but ended up just putting it in my basement.

You could consider donating it.

TVs are a thing you generally have to pay people to take away. Thrift stores don't even take them.

Put it in your bathroom or something.

Goodwill and Salvation Army still accept them, I believe.

Not to 'actually' you, but there is a catch:

"Due to the Digital TV Transition, Goodwill will only take flat-screen tvs."

Bleh, I figured as much...with this new purchase that I plan on making, I'll have an extra that I really don't need, but wouldn't mind eating into the cost of my new buy...but I guess that's a little too perfect to really work out...

I'm very weird with larger material purchases...probably because I grew up with little money, I always try to offset it in some way...where as entertainment things (music festivals, booze, etc.) I don't have the same qualms about...

(For the record, it's not some fat back TV...it's likely a 43" Toshiba flat screen TV...I bought it new like 3 or 4 years ago and it's in great shape...I was hoping it was worth a hundo to someone looking to put a TV in their bathroom...)

I'm that way with car parts. "Hey, I can afford those wheels, especially if I sell off the stock ones!"

Then nobody wants race used factory wheels. ;)

It wouldn't hurt to throw it up on Craigslist or LetGo. It's just a matter of how much you value your time. I can't think of any other way of doing it short of Facebook Marketplace but I don't like that at all.

Just set yourself up on a corner at lunch with the TV and a cardboard sign...

If you hold a cup closer to a faucet, does it fill faster? Less distance traveled would imply a speedier transaction. But the water is distributed at a constant speed.

Basically, I would imagine that the time saved is equivalent to the time it takes for the water to travel from the point you finished at to the point you started at.

Yes. It's merely the difference in time for the initial stream of water to reach the glass.

The difference in any normal situation is negligible. Now, if you put your glass on the street in front of the Burj Khalifa and fill from a faucet at the tip of the spire...

Yup, the only difference is the time it takes for the water to fall, *until* the wind and water dispersion becomes another factor.

I'm going to Vegas for the first time this weekend so I've been thinking about what I want to do gambling wise. I know how to play pass/don't pass/come/don't come as they're the main components of the game and among the best odds both on the craps table and in the casino.

though I've noticed in a lot of real life games in craps that a lot of players will play a lot of the side bets, _especially_ the ones with **** odds (hardways, crap roll, etc). I've always wondered why

I understand that sometimes I'll conflate making money with having fun and not everyone does that, but playing bets where the odds are significantly against you confuses me

I'll be in your neck of the woods this weekend, go figure.

My best Vegas advice is take out how much you want to spend at the beginning of the night and walk away when its empty. Consider the loss the cost of having a fun night in Vegas, don't think of it as money.
Or, just win, baby.
