TIL that car rental agencies add an additional fee to your bill if you have your frequent flyer account linked with them. I have no idea how the hell I never noticed this before today, but the fee isn't worth the miles. It took two phone calls to Budget to get it resolved.
did they waive this?

They wouldn't waive it, so I had to remove my AA # from my Budget profile entirely to have it removed from the reservation. So stupid.

I only recently added mine so I haven't really had a chance to notice it. just curious, how much was the fee?

When traveling, put your suitcases in the shower...

I'm going to go ahead and just continue staying at nice hotels instead, thanks.

About $18 in total. Not much, but I'd rather save the money than earn a few miles.

I'm still fuzzy on the whole charge-you-a-fee-when-you-link-your-FF#-to-your-car-rental thing. Isn't the point of that partnership to give customers a discount and incentive doing business with the partner rental agency?

You'd think that, and this is the only instance that I'm aware of where I'm charged not just a fee, but taxes, too.

Looks like I get to travel out west to SF again in a couple weeks. Other than buying the correct boots to wear while walking through apparent rivers of human feces and used syringes, I want to find a good chinese place. The one I went to the last 2 times was great the first time, but just awful on my last visit.

I do not believe you on that 'just awful' thing. But do you remember the names or at least vague locations of the ones you've been to?

Had a nice long weekend visiting Antietam and Harper's Ferry. Very nice trip! Would highly recommend for a weekend getaway.

Nice! This is definitely on the agenda once my kid (soon to be kids) get older. Harpers Ferry is only about two and a half hours from my home.

We visited John Brown's home in Lake Placid last year. Really made me want to visit Harper's Ferry. Haven't really spent much time there or Antietam.

Both are also close to the C&O canal towpath. We biked through on our Pittsburgh to DC trip years ago. The section near Harper's Ferry and Antietam is paved, which is great because the towpath can be horrendous for biking.

I have our return trip for next year’s vacation on hold right now with AA. I grabbed them at 77.5k miles/each in coach, which isn’t a great redemption. We’re flying on prime days (Saturday), and I’m not one of those crazy people who would rather save 20-30k miles/person to add a flight and spend 20+ hours of total travel time in a single day. Currently, first class is 125k miles/person. I was hoping that they’d drop to 90k, but so far no luck. I think I may just bite the bullet on those since AA devaluation will likely continue.

"Taxes-on-a-fee" should be illegal.

Also, I just booked two SW rewards flights to Denver Jan 9 for a long weekend visiting a buddy and Pens Avs game. Can't wait! Ended up pricing out at 22k per flight round trip. Thought that is hard to beat.

How much is the fine? Cheaper than airfare back?

Just pay it.

You were driving 34% over the limit.

Sam Wo. Excellent in 2017. Reeeeeeally shitty last year. Like...you know when you reheat your Chinese food in the microwave the next day and the sauce is all congealed. That was what I ate.

Leave it to shmengy to have a bad meal at one of the most famous Chinese restaurants in the US.

I'm guessing you'll be staying in the FiDi area again? Yank Sing, Mister Jiu's, Lai Hong, Harborview (this is actually in Embarcadero Center, which I seem recall is where your company's office is located), China Live (which is a collection of several restaurants/stalls).

Some of those places can be a bit pricey (Jiu's has a Michelin star), but they are great.

Nice. Thank you.

I always have this issue where I want “authentic” but end up getting white people Chinese food at these places. I think I’ll embrace it this time.
