We got a power recline sofa and loveseat that was on sale for ~$2900. I mentioned that we were looking at a similar set at Ashley and the salesperson asked how much they were selling it for. I told them it was about $2450 all in. She went downstairs and came back with $2450 all in including tax, delivery and 5-year protection plan. I still had to dispose of the old set, but that just went to the curb.

Oh nice, so you can just do whatever...I like the notion of that. I'll assume that extends to mattress companies as well? As they are also furniture...

It was a first for me, so I can't speak for others, but mattress companies are scummy. The same exact model but it's called a different name at each chain so when they advertise "We'll beat any price on the same model" it's because they know the same model doesn't exist.

We got around $500 off our living room furniture when they agreed to price match Amazon.

If it's not an immediate need, stick to it. You'll find a taker. I have this primed up for when we go couch shopping in a couple months because those 2 things are exactly what I need.I'd love to use the sentence, "throw in free delivery and furniture removal and you've got a deal..."

Free takeaway wouldn’t be a show stopper for me, especially when I can pay my township $45 to pick it up from my curb. You’re better off haggling the price than you are that stipulation.

Movers that are over 2 hours behind schedule and are unwilling/unable to make contact to explain why.
Is no tip acceptable in this scenario?

Does the fault lie with dispatch or the movers themselves? I might ask for a reduced rate and not punish the individual movers if I can find something out definitively...but withholding funds of some sort seems appropriate...
no stupid questions thread
I don't know. I've called dispatch twice. First time they said "driver will call you". 2nd time they said they'd talk to the driver and call back.
Still haven't heard anything. I'm at the point where I'm going to start calling every 10 minutes because this is **** ridiculous.

The money you were going to tip them now has to be retained to offset the additional time you've lost on the day.

"I don't know why the driver hasn't called you"
Direct quote from dispatch.
Yeah. No tip. That's going toward my 4-hours late lunch.

I would be asking for a refund or threatening to cancel to get my way...I don't know how much leverage you have time wise, but I'd be milking this...the service was not delivered.

I was worried about having a similar experience with my TV delivery a few weeks back, since it was a small company based out of NYC whose website was entirely broken, but the guy called me 10 minutes after the delivery window started and showed up 15 minutes later.

They said he was in Dormont half an hour ago.
He's likely going to have to drive on 28 to get here. During PM rush.
I doubt I leave my place til 630.

Movers as in the contents of your apartment/house, or furniture delivery? Either way, time to call dispatch again and either get some money back, or force them to deliver today. If you paid for delivery with a credit card, you can definitely dispute the charge.

Yeah my apartment. It's only a bed, box mattress, TV, nightstand, and a dresser. I'm literally only moving it about 10 miles.
I told him I paid for it to be moved today, it has to be moved today.

When autonomous cars are fully adopted traffic will cease to exist right?

In that scenario, there’s no doubt in my mind that it’d be better. For instance, all it takes is a single jagoff to slow down to check out an accident in another lane and the chain reaction takes a long time to recover. Mythbusters tackled this one years ago.

No, too much volume for the roadways to handle is the biggest reason for traffic.

It would improve things, but there would still be traffic.

I don't recall at the moment where I learned this, but a few years ago there was a study that showed that a single driver unnecessarily panic braking (for, say, an empty plastic bag blowing across the road) was enough to cause a 1/4-mile long accordion effect of other cars slowing down in response.

Maybe from NTP's post 3 above yours?I don't recall at the moment where I learned this...
It's a damn fine example of paraphrasing though...
