Tokarski signed an AHL deal so he should not be a part of any decision that Pittsburgh makes.

Going back a little bit, I don't really see the big deal re: the HCMS extension. As others have stated, if he turns sour after two years, Vellucci will be on his way up.

Solid deal. A Ron Francis type center, a 3rd line center with some uspide and a mobile two-way defenseman. Good stuff.

>The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Adam Johnson to a one-year, two-way contract, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.
>The deal runs through the 2019-20 campaign and has an average annual value of $700,000 at the NHL level.

I generally like Bob Grove and the insight he provides, but yesterday I heard him spouting some nonsense about how in his opinion if the Penguins felt Riikola could be a reliable NHL defenseman they would have given him more than a one-year deal. Uhhh why? He was an RFA and will be an RFA again after this season. There’s little incentive for the team to give multi-year contracts to unproven RFAs like Riikola, ZAR, or Blueger.

That and why would Riikola sign more than a one year deal after getting dicked around?

Johnson and his contract weren’t even in the top 10 reasons why last season sucked. He’s a problem. We can still win with him, if other things are in order, imo.

TIL Malkin is the oldest player on the Pens.

But if Malkin is the oldest player on the Pens that would mean I've aged quite a bit since his escape from Russia and that doesn't seem right.
What's that? It's been 13 years since Malkin collided with John LeClair in that preseason game? Oh ****. I just realized that I'm the same age as John LecLair was when he collided with Malkin.
