Kessel traded to the Yotes

Postby Trip McNeely » Sun Jun 30, 2019 9:35 am

Despite the whole point per game Phil argument, anyone who watched him play knew he was horrid last year. He wasn’t alone (I’m looking at you Geno) .... but Kessel isn’t Geno. Not in talent, not in likeability among the players and coaches, and not importance to the franchise.

If only there was a way to have a ppg+ winger for, idk, say 6.8. That'd be a steal...

20 bucks says Kessel is approaching this as a semantics debate about what “asking” means.
Kessel likes the victim role. He heading to his fourth franchise obviously all of three previous teams are at fault and Phil shares zero blame along the way.

There is a Boston behind the scenes thing where the GM and staff were talking about trading Seguin. Kessel is discussed and they never mentioned him requesting a trade. They do mention wanting to trade him for his one dimensional play though.

I am also not sure where this he likes to play the victim role thing is coming from. There is a pouter on the team, but that guy doesn't wear 81.

Just noticed that Phil had only 59 points in 2015-16. Funny.

He’s literally playing the victim right now. Like today. Maybe you believe him, but this is where it’s “coming from”, if there was confusion.

What is he doing? What did I miss? Or are you referring to him saying that he didn't ask to be traded? Is that your entire proof of him "liking to play the victim"?

I believe that he wanted off this team and that he’s now being disingenuous about that fact, which implies that he is a victim, yes.

I don’t blame you for believing him. It’s just not likely true.

Playing the victim, denying he did anything to make management trade him, it all comes down to the same bottom line. Another organization got fed up with his antics and now he's in the dessert with his buddy Tocchet. 81 played a big role in two cup teams, and for that all Pens fans should thank him. But guys like him, have a shelf life, and his just expired with the Pens. Time to move on.

Its not the first time he has been traded, and it not because he lacks talent or is overpaid.

Yes. I do. The truth is certainly known in the inner circles of the league. Rutherford would be destroying his reputation to make this up. And despite recency bias, his career is still in fine standing, and something that’s more valuable to him than just spinning 1 trade that won’t even impact the franchise drastically.

Kessel, on the other hand, is a known weirdo who doesn’t care about his image and doesn’t have to. I think he’s interpreting this in a way that makes him feel better about himself. Looking for shreds of engagement from last year and building his narrative that way.

Rutherford is a straight shooter. Making this **** up is not his style.

We also have 2 years of an uninjured Kessel completely checking out for weeks at a time. Very normal. Very cool.

here is the thing

1. I could careless if phil walked into Rutherford office and took a **** on his desk and demanded a trade multiple time
2. I could careless if Rutherford walked into the locker and took Phil's hot dog's away and said he is trading him and he'd never be a penguins again and made him cry

From a pure on the hockey perspective i think we made the trade 1 year to early (if you really believed kessel was going to be here the remaining years of his contract i have some magic beans to sell you). I don't care about all the other gossip and everything else going on.

That being said its not like, i like the overall idea of this trade. We have a year to see if Galchenyuk can do anything on the wing with Geno. Contract year hopefully is huge motivation for him. Worst case this time next year we have cap space we wouldn't have had.
