That sounds like a lot of fun, actually.
It was too much fun, tbh

I would much rather be social and drink at weddings than do the electric slide.

the wedding party arrives (back from their limo ride around town I guess).
Photos.

Because they must be taken immediately following the ceremony when you're emotionally drained and everyone is waiting. Would be crazy to do them literally any other day. ;)
lol yeah true.. oh.. the bride changed into a tighter fitting dress to do their dance routine, and then the photographer yelled at her for doing so, so she changed BACK into the wedding gown for the rest of the day. lol
Mrs Tif did a dress change, but not until like halfway through our reception.

That two-building thing, I don't know. That's pretty tough. First off, Sunday am timing would red flag the thing. We had our wedding on a Friday night because it was literally 1/4 the price for the same venue on a Saturday, and we had our pick of dates. But we knew going in that that timing would limit the size of the guest population, which was fine by us, as we only invited maybe 80 people and had a final guest tally in the low 70s.

If you can't afford to have all your intended guests in the same physical space for the reception, you're inviting too many people. It's a very east coast/mid-Atlantic ethos, but 200+ wedding guests is just silly to me, unless you're of a status where your nuptials garner media attention. Tbh, once I found out I wouldn't be in the same building as the wedding party, I'd have left immediately. Like, gift-on-the-table-butt-in-the-car kind of immediately. "Here's your stand mixer, enjoy your day."

Our invite list was ~300. A combination of Catholic families and divorces will push the number up pretty high rather quickly.

We got everyone in the same room, though. ;)

We ended up with around 220 RSVPs and over 200 of them attended. It was a really fun time.

I just can't wrap my head around the concept of even wanting that many people at my wedding, never mind actually inviting and committing to paying for that number.

I don't think I could even name 300 people. I'm not even talking about people that I know, either. I'm so glad that my wife didn't want a big wedding, because our invite count was 0.

we just went to the Justice of the peace.. in and out in 5 minutes. 44$. Short and sweet. We are both people who don't like to do big events though. I think it's silly to drop tens of thousands of dollars on a wedding, but if that is your thing and you got the cash.. more power to you.

This was our line of thought, as well. That and eloping was considerably less stressful.

My MIL put in 2K, my parents put in 1K, and we put in 1K and we had ourselves one hell of a party for about 90 people.

I have almost 50 aunts uncles and first cousins... on my mom's side alone.

We would've been fine doing that, but we decided the whole fancy dress up party thing would be fun. Our ceremony lasted a grand total of perhaps 8 minutes, two of which were taken up by people laughing at Mrs Tif's vows, which included promises to watch hockey and F1 without complaining too much.

You should have come back this weekend. The weather was beautiful. Today's weather is trash.

not that I'm planning on getting married any time soon, but I do want a wedding. But, to your point, I think it's ridiculous spending a ton of money and putting yourself in unnecessary debt for a day's celebration. I want to maximize fun but minimize money spent

One of my best friends did a morning/brunch wedding with a buffet, and I thought it was great. He also went with no band/DJ and no dancing. They had a live string quartet play for 45 minutes or so, and then they switched over to mix CDs on the room's PA system where the bride and groom alternated their favorite songs. Everything started at 11:00 and was done by around 14:00. Perfect.

I recognize that a lot of people like to dance at weddings, but at the same time a lot of people aren't interested (especially the older folks), and the loud music makes it difficult for those people to talk to one another and catch up. A wedding is, to some extent, also a family reunion. My brother also went with a no-dancing wedding, and it was also very well done.

I would venture to guess that this is the opinion of most men prior to getting engaged. Once that happens it turns into your fiancé’s event.
