Will be interesting to see what JR does. The defense, outside of Dumo and Pettersson, has serious warts. While we have ample RW depth, the two top paid players don't play with the top two centers at even strength well enough while eating up 12 million in cap space.

Phil + JJ for a serviceable d-man would be okay with me

GMJR needs to take a hard look at Letang's health. Letang was much improved this season but never looked the same after the injury from the SS game. it's like he reverted right back to Leturnover.

If you’re gonna just scratch Maataa for a doofus that takes penalties and is lost please trade the man. He’s a 24 year old 2 time cup winner. Ridiculous

I'd be surprised if Olli isn't gone. He'll get dumped for a couple 2nds, or a 2nd and a decent d prospect.

Olli needs to stick around. Mishaps happen, but he plays great, smart defensive hockey.

I don’t think it’s Olli. I think it’s a coaching staff that values Jack Johnson over a guy that very recently helped win 2 cups

I want him to stay however when you have Olli at ~4 million, JMFJ at 3.25, and Gud at 4 million when you need to cut money it is clear who is the easiest to move.

I think we've hit the Sullivan gets half a year to change the course or he's out mode.

I do think they need to start considering Letang's health, mental ability, and determine if he's the top guy they want to run with. Getting demoted off the power-play in the most critical game was glaring last night, but there's always been an argument that Schultz is simply better suited for this team in that spot.

I think they trade Olli, trade Kessel, and they're gonna have to move Gudbranson I think since JJ is going to be practically untradeable. Gudbranson showed that he's serviceable, so he's not a total loss.

so lets trade away the best of the 3 and keep the other two. at least our shitty team will be cheap

Out of the three, he's probably the most tradeable. I'd be interested to see where GM and ownership value Sullivan if they appease his thinking that Olli isn't better than JJ over the off-season.

But out of the three, I bet they're going to eat salary if their trade either of the other two, and it may be worth it.

You could get something of value for him. The other two you would likely have to add to them to get them off the team. Maatta gets you picks/prospects. JJ or Gud you're going to have to add something like a 3rd to get a 5th back. I don't like the idea either but they need to manage the assets as best they can.

I heard it during the season a little bit...then the scratches for a similar player in Pettersson...I think there's a better than 50/50 shot that we saw Maatta's last game as a Penguin in game 1...

Guys that can stay,

Sid
Geno
Guentzel
McCann
Bjugstad (3rd line Center)
Rust (mostly 3rd line)
Simon (only 3rd line)
Bleuger (bottom 6)
Petterson
Dumo
Maata
Schultz
Murray

Guys that I’m in the middle on

Hornqvist - love him but his style has taken its toll. He could fill a move energy position on a 4th line and still be met front on the PP. I don’t think he can hold up any longer playing top 6 mins. His price makes it hard to use him in a bottom 6 role.

Kessel - he’s a luxury item. Like having HBO on a cable bill. We got our Game of Thrones with 2 cups. It’s time to cancel the HBO.

Letang - was in the running in terms of Norris discussion before injuries. This is more of capitalizing on his value right now. Teams will overpay to get a guy like him and moving him could bring in assets to help fill out the team. There’s no replacing him for sure but he’s the best piece that can be moved and get real value back.

Guys that can go for a bag of pucks

JMFJ
Gudbranson
Wilson
Cullen

I think we need to dump Hornqvist before we dump Phil, but we won't see that happen.
