So, nearly all the relics and priceless art have been transported to another safe location.
Meanwhile, the whereabouts of Danny Ocean are still unknown.

The Catholic Church didn't want to spend the money to renovate it. Clearly they torched it for the insurance money.

It will. A lot of "pretty" European sights have been majorly repaired and even re-built. Take Prague, which is considered one of the most historically preserved cities in the world (one of the reasons being that it has never been affected by any war, as Czechs quickly lost all of them. ). One of the iconic sights is the Charles Bridge. You can walk on the marvel of architecture that the good Emperor Charles IV ordered to be built in 13-freakin-57, with the mortar strengthen by - as the legend says - by egg yolks, and enjoy many of the 18th Century statues:

Image

Well - pretty much all the original statues have been completely replaced, and the egg-super-strong mortar apparently did not face that well during the 1890 flood:

Image

And the point - do people care that they are in fact walking mostly on 19-20 Century replica? The millions of tourists suggest otherwise. :)

BTW - that awesome Gothic St. Vitus Cathedral in the distance on the first picture? Majorly built/finished (inside and out) in the first half of 20th Century.

This dude...

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... relic.html
A French priest who helped the wounded in the Bataclan terror attack on Paris and who survived an ambush in Afghanistan also emerged as a hero of the Notre Dame fire today.

Jean-Marc Fournier, chaplain of the Paris Fire Brigade, rushed straight for the relics housed in the cathedral to rescue the the Blessed Sacrament and the Crown of Thorns relics from the blazing building on Monday night.

It was feared that both religious artefacts would be lost as flames engulfed the medieval building, but Father Fournier made sure they were taken to safety.

Four years ago he also comforted the wounded after the worst terrorist attack on Paris this century when 89 people were massacred at the Eagles of Death Metal concert in 2015.

During his time as an army chaplain, Father Fournier, survived an ambush in which 10 soldiers were killed.

There was a fire fighter dude on the TV last night saying that a big reason why they were able to save the relics is because with a structure fire of this nature (giant stone fireplace full of fuel) the initial response/triage is focused on preventing the fire from spreading rather than knocking down what's already ablaze. So they'd focus efforts on hosing down stuff 100 yards away from anything currently on fire, which allowed responders to go into the building and recover items from those areas. It sort of meant they made the decision early to sacrifice things like the spire and roof to do what they could to save the belfries, for example.

I watched a documentary last night called 9/10 about September 10th, 2001. Someone had video recorded a speech given by a priest who worked for the NYFD about never knowing what your next call was going to be and whether you would make it back. He was killed by flying debris when the first tower fell. I didn't think I'd hear an account of another priest in a similar situation so quickly, but here we are.

It should also be noted that a big contributor to the salvage of the relics was that many of them had previously been removed from the building to facilitate the renovation that had just begun.

Columbine High School and about a dozen other schools are on lockdown as law enforcement says it is investigating what appears to be a credible threat possibly involving the schools.

Saw a blurb about an article about conversations that Columbine survivors have with their kids on why there are active shooter/lockdown drills.

Well thank you very much, Tomas (he said, sarcastically)... you've just ruined the memory of my visit to Prague! ;)

Front lines of 21st century history, right there. A good historian will make him immortal.

What seems to have been saved is remarkable, considering the imagery from last evening.

I'm grateful that their strategy was as successful as it appears to have been. I think it is incredibly important that man do everything we can to preserve these touchstones to history.

Everyone being all sad and stupid over this thousand year old building pledging 100s of millions to rebuild a useless **** building is pretty hilarious.

Be nice if there was the same reaction to fix flint's water, eradicate ringworm in impoverished communities and end food deserts.

BUT HEY! **** POOR PEOPLE! LET THEM EAT CAKE

I don’t believe that Louisiana church has the same significance of Notre Dame. While still sad and terrible it burned, obviously it wouldn’t garner the same level of donations.

The others did receive hundreds of millions in donations and Puerto Rico received billions from the federal government.

Not good comparisons.

I saw a discussion that the super-detailed high-res photos and laser scans that were made of Notre Dame for the video game Assassin's Creed Unity may assist in rebuilding the sanctuary. What a time.

I'd be curious of the context around that statement. That being said it's still a dumb statement and comes across reallllly bad.
