That and the Apple commercials are insufferable. They are geared towards pretentious hipster/fanbois/fangurls and they actually reinforce my decision to never look back.

I had the complete opposite experience. I had a Dell laptop that constantly gave me the blue screen of death and when that wasn't happening it was as slow as Craig MF Adams. I went MacBook Air and I will NEVER go back to PC/Windows.I don't own any Apple products. B) Even just doing minor historical research with about 4 or 5 tabs open, the damn thing just about crapped out on me...I ran with it through the summer as best as I could, but then I had to quit it...I sold it to someone in New Zealand so that I could get it as far away from me as possible...

Saw a memoriam decal on the side of the cab of a semi this morning. That was a first. Huge full length fathead sized sticker of the person with the "In Memory" and dates.

The genius of Steve Jobs was as a marketer, not as a product developer. MP3 players had existed for years; the iPod never would've taken off but for the paper napkin deal he struck with U2 to sell their songs individually. That and the Apple commercials are insufferable. They are geared towards pretentious hipster/fanbois/fangurls and they actually reinforce my decision to never look back.
The commercials are lifestyle plays that often don't even feature the products until the final few seconds of the spot. Show people being 'cool' for 26 seconds, then show the key to unlocking all that coolness is the new iTool XI x Plus. Which of course was far superior to the iTool X x Plus, which itself was worlds apart from the iTool X x, and aren't you a dope for not upgrading last year.

Yeah, same...I assumed he would be slurpin his knob for inventing electronics like the Beatles inventing music or whatever haha
Good for you, tif...**** Steve Jobs!

What's a computer?

That would require Apple to invent electronics. The patent the iPod is based off of dates to the 1970s, and they purchased it when the owner let the registration lapse.
The whole thing about Apple is 'user interface', and 'simplicity'.... which is just marketing. It's a way to present the product to the consumer. It's not a better product, you just like the way you interact with it better.
Apple can suck a bag of leprous dicks.
This is 100 years old but still wonderfully apropos
(Guy on my old beer league team is an editor who used to work with this guy.)

I'm not sure which thread is best for this, but it makes me disgusted, so I guess I'll post here...
So today we had the service for my Grandmother... we had a dinner afterwards and I found out that her sister had to leave from there to go to another funeral for one of her daughters' father in law. I also found out that that daughter also had a stroke not too long ago, but made it through... she's only 49.
If that wasn't enough, I feel awful for my uncle... he lost his mother, and at the same time, his "wife" (they're not officially married, but had a commitment ceremony since she had stage 4 lung cancer) is currently in hospice and has multiple tumors on her brain. She is refusing any further chemo because it wasn't working... so her time is likely limited. She has 2 sons (one is still a minor, the other is college age)... since my uncle is not the guardian, if she passes, the youngest will have to go back to live with his father who apparently he hates.
The whole situation makes me sick... imagine that you finally find the person you want to marry and then this happens...

Good lord. That entire post was just heartbreaking to read.
My wife spent years babysitting a young girl (now a young teenager) whose mom had died. The mom had a son from a previous marriage who the dad was in the process of formerly adopting, but the process was not finished when she died suddenly, so he was sent to live with his biological father, who he hadn’t seen more than a handful of times over the entire course of his life, on the other side of the country.
I can’t even imagine having to go through something like that.

Me: "Can you confirm that Microsoft is actually pulling the 2024 EOL on MBAM, as has been rumored?"
Microsoft: "I'll set up a meeting to discuss. We should only need an hour or so!"
It's a yes or no question, god damnit.

Got an alert from Credit Karma about my score dropping. So, I login to see that my “VantageScore 3.0” score dropped 29 points. Why? Because my Chase card balance went up $25 (from $0 the previous month), and my Target card balance went up $300. That score is 50+ points lower than my FICO score on all three bureaus, so they can get ****.
