Right. Netflix obviously knows viewership as well a whole bunch of other analytics, but they don't tend to share that unless it's good news (like above). I'm just wondering where everybody is getting these stats. They know, just depends on if they share with the rest of the world. Today they said The Christmas Chronicles was viewed by 20 million people in its first week.

they paid $100 mil to keep it through 2019. Good show.Didn't they already clarify that this wasn't happening? Friends is on multiple networks, and I still watch it, so no worries there.Saw that Netflix is removing Friends, sorry @NTP66

I read an interesting article recently. A show I liked on Netflix was not renewed for a second season. Netflix said it was specifically cancelled because many people did not finish the first episode. They don't care how fast you watch something (binge watchers are the same as normal people) but they do care that you finish the show/series.

Thanks to the original Narcos I've read about 10 books on the history of the cartels (reading El Narco right now, which I recommend) and something they note about the DEA in the mid-80's is true. That it wasn't exactly a real agency and they had like 7th tier law enforcement guys at the beginning.Narcos Mexico has been good. One thing though, and I think I knew this through the entirety of the prior Narcos seasons, but it didn't seem to stick out as much as it does now. The contrast between how interesting all the criminals are, and what dullards all the US DEA agents are.

That makes sense, these guys were seemingly at the bottom of the food chain. I think my complaint is just how dumb and uninteresting every scene is with the cops. They are either on a stakeout being like, "we're really get this guy" or they're in the office like "we're going to get this mother f'er" or they're at a bar after a failure talking about how "this country is so f'd up".Thanks to the original Narcos I've read about 10 books on the history of the cartels (reading El Narco right now, which I recommend) and something they note about the DEA in the mid-80's is true. Yep.
I am pretty fascinated with Mexico now. Ordered a book on the geology of the Sierra Madre the other day.

Honestly, the only SNL I’ve enjoyed in the past decade or two were the SNL Celebrity Jeopardy skits.

I just went back to look. Late 80’s through mid 90’s were my favorites, I think I stopped watching entirely in the early 2000s, outside of a few specific bits.

Before the days of Youtube, I had all of those skits saved on my desktop. This was around 2003, so I can't imagine how much of my hard drive they took up.

I love SNL and haven’t missed an episode in probably 15 years. This season is rough.

Those were my favorite years and I stopped watching around the same time as you. My wife and I will watch maybe 2 or 3 episodes a year if we are up and it's just not the same.I just went back to look. If you stopped watching in the early 2000s, you missed some great casts. The cast with Bill Hader, Will Forte, Armisen, Wiig, Sudeikis, Samberg were amazing and I think absolutely rival the cast of the 90s. Toward the 2010s, they added some lesser-knowns that were great on the show but maybe haven't quite found their place post SNL run like Taran Killam, Vanessa Bayer, and Bobby Moynihan. Those were my favorite years and I stopped watching around the same time as you. Right now Kate McKinnon is obviously the standout, but Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, Aidy Bryant, and Mikey Day are solid. And of course Kenan is Kenan. The problem with the more recent seasons is not the cast, it's the writing. That has been a weak spot since Seth Meyers left.

I really want a solid MP3 copy of Neil Young playing Rockin' in the Free World on SNL in 1989. It's not on any streaming service, even the Neil Young Archives. Really a superlative version of the song. @shafnutz05
That's the best that's available on YouTube. The uploader tilts the video and doubles the song to throw off the bots that search for copyright violations. It works, but it's a sucky copy of the song.

I love that version too--this is the best video I've found of it:

he flagship show leading the Defenders’ takeover of the streaming service was cancelled for a lot of reasons — creative differences, Disney+ being on the horizon, Netflix having its own successful non-Marvel shows, the higher engagement required by the Marvel shows to make up for the higher overhead — but lack of an audience doesn’t seem to be one of them. According to Deadline, people were still watching Daredevil the week its fourth season was canned — lots of them.
The site cites Parrot Analytics, which shows data that Daredevil only lagged behind the Netflix originals Narcos, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and Stranger Things in “viewer demand” through the week ending on Dec. 1. And that’s not just a ranking of Netflix shows; that’s a ranking of all “digital originals in the United States across all streaming platforms.” That means Daredevil may have been fourth to a few Netflix originals, but it still beat out every single original show put up by Hulu or Amazon.

Yeah, the more I read about it, the less it makes sense other than for Disney to announce a Daredevil return in a few years.
