Best of luck to both. **** cancer. My uncle is still battling on with his fight. His brother was just other there to donate stem cells. I hope to see him when I go out to California in two months.

We need much more stem cell funding and research. There’s no legitimate reason to stifle that area of medicine.

One of my ten year old son's friends was diagnosed with aggressive forms of cancer. He hadn't been feeling well (sick to the stomach) and his shoulder was sore. He plays travel baseball, so his parents thought the shoulder was from overuse. They took him to the doctor about the stomach pain and after a few days of tests, they found three large masses - lower GI, shoulder, and his back.
It makes me ill thinking about what that family is going through. Trying to work and live a normal life, while your son goes through surgeries and chemo at a children's hospital two hours away.
And then the fundraisers. All of the fundraisers to pay for it all. Having to put on a happy face for everyone. I don't know if I could do it. I really don't.

We have quite a few new options for insurance through MetLife via work this year.
Accident Insurance - up to 30k in the event of an accidental emergency
Critical Illness (including Cancer) - same $ amounts
Hospital Indemnity
Seems like a decent thing to jump on. If you select top rate for each, it is about a total of $30 per pay.

Not many big children's hospitals in that area. Honestly, you'd probably be looking at CHOP or UPMC for the closest top-tier children's hospital from NC.

St. Jude isn't far from there either, and they have a world renowned program. That said, I do feel #blessed to live within an hour of DuPont in Wilmington and CHOP in Philly.

Just saying that if we’re talking about a top-10 program, you’re driving much further than two hours.

MUSC Children's hospital down in Charleston. Great facility and staff. I've known lots of kids (unfortunately) that have been treated there for various things.DG, what facility is he being treated at?

MUSC is a good place. A friend's son's life was saved there immediatately after birth.

Have any of you fine folks torn your MCL? I'm pretty sure I did about 10 days ago. The pain is bearable through the day but at night, it's borderline excruciating. Just wondering if there's anything I can do to alleviate it a bit at night so I can get some sleep.

If you're at work and functioning, particularly in a high demand setting, you're not having a migraine.

This. As for what helps, a raging hot shower, followed by a cold bedroom as dark as humanly possible, and sleep. If you're at work and functioning, particularly in a high demand setting, you're not having a migraine.

So I've been thinking about that...I normally wake up at 5 AM every day. Usually have two cups of coffee, first one around 5:20. Start to get ready to leave between 6:45-7. This morning, I slept most of the night in my daughter's bed since she came and got me, and woke up very late by my standards 7:05. I wonder how much of that headache was too much sleep/my body screaming for caffeine.
Agree, don't think it was a migraine. Was brutal though.

Sounds like caffeine withdrawal. I had something similar back in college when I went a day or two without a midday caffeine drink.

Early on Wednesday morning, I missed a step while carrying an item down to my basement. I thought I was stepping down onto the landing when I still had a step to go. Went to the ER and was told to follow up with ortho. The ER doc thought I had one small fracture, but the ortho said I have two small fractures in my ankle. I'll be wearing one of those walking boots for the next six weeks or so. Bah.

Does it clash with your fedora? If so, I advise you to ditch the boot
