I was expecting some regression, but this is just depressing. Talk about a wasted outing from Williams.

Enjoyed listening to a nice rant from a couple of naked old guys in the gym locker room. Apparently, the Pirates traded their best player, Austin Meadows, for some wannabe rapper. Worst trade in Pirates history. Or at least the worst trade since they got rid of Bob Purkey.

The Pirates go 24 innings without scoring a run. They’ve managed to score 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd.

Tampa got the Glasnow we're all familiar with last night against the Red Sox. 6.2 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 3 BB, 4 K, and a horrific 53% of pitches for strikes.

Sort of. After the first inning he went 5.2 1h (Martinez 38th hr) 0bb.
So 0 base runners other than the hr over 18 batters. The pirates never saw that nor him go 6.2 I don't think

So it was the classic Pirates Glasnow in the first followed by Rays Glasnow for 5.2. That’s still progress I guess. Wonder how his command was after the first.

Haha I wondered the same thing but don't feel like checking
Was just looking through the entire professional careers of the 5 current starters and there's a lot to like. Williams and Musgrove are at their highest stock right now but there's reason to believe.
I think most fans are convinced that if a player can hit homeruns [maybe 30] that he's worth many other liabilities. Power trumps everything. But for pitchers modern analytics act like giving up home runs are just the natural course of an average flyball. The stats I'm sure generally bear that out and high go/ao pitchers have lower hr/9. But im too lazy to look up how "lucky" Williams has been in hrs per flyball but he may be approaching the sustainable status.
**** im just trying to say the simplest thing. Don't give up hrs and you'll cut your era by 1.00
This has borne out with Cole the last few years and Nova in his less good years et al. Kingham this year was as good as any pirates pitchers in almost every respect except HRs. Musgrove has been great since he's avoided the bigger HRs allowed with the Astros.
Whether giving up hrs is useful or not at predicting future results (why or not some pitchers always under perform their fip) or whether preaching ground balls is worth it, or the league or ballpark you play in, I feel home runs allowed is under emphasized as a stat.
And guys that overperform their lucky or expected hr/ fly ball should be more well known. But im going to assume they are well known and are probably the stars and it's hard to scout for them in the minors where there's less power against them and they haven't refined or aren't using their full arsenal blah anyway gotta go to work

11 of 28 in the first, 43 of 66 (65%) the rest of the way. So it was definitely classic disaster Glasnow followed by more confident Glasnow. Rays are in a position to allow him to continue pitching after a blowup inning to gain some confidence in himself. Pirates either never were or were never willing to. Again, I don’t think he’s going to end up a top of the rotation guy, but the change of scenery can only help him.Haha I wondered the same thing but don't feel like checking. So it was the classic Pirates Glasnow in the first followed by Rays Glasnow for 5.2. GMNH:
The Cards continually call up young players, give them significant playing time, and have lasting success. The Pirates feel it necessary to give 25 year olds a “snapshot” of MLB life while giving them minimal playing time, have minimal success. I hate these people.A lot of it is about where we are as a team. Right now, this tough stretch since August 1st has put us further back than we would like to be, but Adeiny is a legitimate above average major league shortstop, and he has been for years. We get that Newman is the bright young prospect, the 1st round pick that has earned his way to the big league; this is why we wanted to give him this snapshot look at the Major Leagues...yes, he will get some time, but our guidance to Clint has been put the best lineup on the field to win games.

I looked up the Cubs 3 hitter [or cleanup I forget] last night. Bote I think. No pedigree or performance showed he should be up or performing. It's a crap shoot with most prospects with their ability to perform in the majors. Give them shots. Maybe no coincidence that Polanco started to perform once the 4 man rotation started when meadows raked

Greg Brown thought that was UNBELIEVABLE!! As if he hasn’t been watching this organization do the dumbest possible thing at the worst possible time for 20 plus years.Couldn't even go one pitch without making Maddon look like a genius with that 5 man infield

Pretty crazy to give up 4 runs total in a 4 game series and only split it.

Apostel being included in the kela deal kind of sucks. He looks destined to be a major league power hitting first basemen one day. I fear he’s a guy that’s just going to take a massive leap next year or the year after.

Yea that sucks. He’s a low floor, high ceiling kinda prospect that seems to have a ton of power potential.
