Yeah, you trade him now while he still probably has big value. If you're gonna try to neuter his game, you're gonna hurt his value...if you're gonna try to slip him out there for 17:30 a game that doesn't include PP1 time, you're gonna hurt his value. So let's just move on while the gettin' is good...
Will we? I highly doubt it. Should we? I believe so.

I think he's earned until at least the december break to fix his game.

It's worth noting that he has a modified NTC/NMC (18 teams he can be traded to).

The NTC is not really an obstacle...half the league is on it.
And yes, this move is now or never. You have the whole marketplace available...two shots...before the draft and immediately after when a team misses out on one of those big time d-men in this draft...
After that, he's a Penguin for life or he ends as being significantly discounted later...

Yeah now is the time to trade Letang if it ever happens. He played 79 games this year and one of his big issues was staying healthy. 4 years at 7.25 per isn't going to kill a team. He's already been moved to PP2, there are GMs dumb enough to take him on even with his defensive short comings.

I'm nitpicking here, but the fact that he has an NTC is still an obstacle since it doesn't include all teams. There's a very good chance that a team willing to trade for him [for a decent return] is not on his list.mikey wrote:Source of the post The NTC is not really an obstacle...half the league is on it.

Yeah and I'm carelessly glancing over it. Knowing what I know about Letang, I think if we asked him to waive it, he'd waive it. Particularly to stay in the east to give us the business every chance he got. I don't think it will prove to be an obstacle.
Then again, I don't think we ever get to that point in real life anyhow...

Is it 18 teams he'll allow a trade to, or 18 teams he won't?
If it's the former that only excludes 12 teams. I like those chances.

I bet that, if approached, he would expand that list to 25 or so.
Edmonton, Buffalo and Phoenix are always non-starters (and Ottawa now) but it’s hard to find that many pariahs anymore. If he’s ok with Canada, Winnipeg and Calgary aren’t so bad now. The Panthers are in a wasteland...but no state income tax. I think he would be amenable to a lot more teams than he would have at the time of the signing.

PG staff wants to trade Kessel, fan base wants to trade Letang.
Will be interesting if either are right.

There are obviously a few forwards I would gladly take for Letang, but I don't think there's any way around trading him for another defenseman. And I don't see anyone on Florida's roster that I'd want who isn't named OEL.meow wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 10:05 amI think Florida would be in on him big time.shmenguin wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 10:03 am I bet that, if approached, he would expand that list to 25 or so.

Trade him for a value, then. Flip some forwards later on. We need a replacement in about 10 months. Not in October.NTP66 wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 10:17 amThere are obviously a few forwards I would gladly take for Letang, but I don't think there's any way around trading him for another defenseman. Maybe Letang will accidentally waive his NTC, mimicking his defensive zone coverage.

I'd check that roster again...NTP66 wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 10:17 amThere are obviously a few forwards I would gladly take for Letang, but I don't think there's any way around trading him for another defenseman. Letang and Sheary to Florida for Ekblad and Trocheck. 99.9% sure that’s equal value.
Official Recriminations Thread
No, we're not getting Ekblad.
