I've enjoyed everything I've seen from Sion Sono thus far, but this one (Antiporno) seems like it'll test the limits of that. Still plan on finding out anyway.Yojimbo, Your Name, Godzilla. The other movies are....... set ups for failure.

Antiporno looks really avant garde, and Stray Cat Rock is like a Japanese John Waters movie. (Which is somehow more avant garde)

Yeah, so I mean, that's pretty much what I expect, so at the very least I don't think I'll be too disappointed. Especially at a crisp 76 minutes. Where things get dicey is when your more experimental movies have a hefty running length. I'm still mad I'll never get back the time I lost watching "Enter The Void." I kept expecting things to eventually take off. They never did. That film is the "dodints Brew" of movies.

Molly's Game was pretty good. Jessica Chastain is awesome. Idris Elba is awesome. It's funny that her view shows Russian mobsters as more likable than Tobey Macguire, who I would have never guessed was such a huge dadhole. I like Aaron Sorkins writing, but I also have a hard time when he shift gears and tries to get emotional. Jessica Chastain is awesome.

Great, been waiting to watch that one but just haven't pulled the trigger.

I'm most of the way through watching the Icarus documentary on Netflix. I'm thinking Russia isn't the only country caught up in these shenanigans. They were just the first to get caught on a large scale like this.

Caroll Spinney is coming to Rangos theater for a Q&A followed by Follow That Bird on the big screen. This would be very cool to see.

If you're interested in watching somewhat obscure critically acclaimed films, I highly recommend FilmStruck. They offer a 14 day trial and the Criterion Collection has moved their catalog to it.
It's better than Netflix in terms of films worth watching imo
Here's a neat site to view their catalog https://www.justwatch.com/us/provider/filmstruck

I would guess you just need a university email; promotions like this never check if you're a matriculated student or somethingRE: filmstruck, I wonder how this works if you work at a university, but are not technically a student.

I used my old student email years after I graduated until I lost access to the actual email

The Greatest Showman was way better than I thought it would be. I enjoyed it.

It looks a little Moulin Rouge-y to me, in the sense that they use anachronistic music in a period piece. Maybe not existing pop tunes reworked for the narrative, but still. Is that accurate? The Greatest Showman was way better than I thought it would be. I enjoyed it.

Pretty accurate. My wife wanted to see it and I ended up liking it more than she did. Jackman always puts forth a good performance and Effron was solid as well. A couple of the songs are excellent. Reading some stuff after seeing the movie, the creative liberties they took with Barnum's life to come up with the story might be the most impressive part.

DD, when Moulin Rouge came out the lady I was dating at the time was all "WE HAVE TO SEE THIS" and I was not super enthusiastic about it. We went to see it, and she thought it was pretty meh, but I absolutely loved it. So I think I might enjoy this Barnum movie.

I have never been so disappointed in a movie than I was with Thin Red Line. Have I seen worse movies? Yeah, sure. But I went into them sort of expecting liquid turds. (Jaws: The Revenge remains the worst movie I have ever paid money to see.) With TRL, we're talking a guy with a pedigree. Sure, it was just two movies, but what movies! So I went in expecting a taught character-driven drama about the existential nature of man and war..... and what I got was a documentary produced by the Solomon Islands Board of Travel. Then you would probably love Malick's Thin Red Line. (I really like the film, not as good as the book, but it is what it is)
