That's how I started. It's just such a cool peak lazy feeling.

Spectrum shut down their analog signal finally, requiring all subscribing customers to use a box to watch cable TV. We use Spectrum only for internet, and split the coax to get about 25 local channels. Welp, that ended yesterday.

We did the digital antenna thing when we dropped cable in 2010, but I was unimpressed with the quality. It looks like the digital antennas are better now, so we'll probably go with that eventually. We only watch a few things on live TV, like Survivor ( ), Jeopardy!, and football...so we don't want a real cable TV package anyway. My 9 year old, who has never had cable (or didn't remember when we had satellite when he was a toddler), actually pulled a iPad Pro commercial "What's cable TV?"

For the time being, we're using DirectTV Now and a 7 day trial. I did that when it first launched, and it was OK. The streaming quality was much better this time around, although we have more bandwidth than we did a year or two ago. Not practical to channel surf with controlling the channels from a phone or tablet and casting it via Chromecast, however.

I believe they are still offering free devices depending on how many months you prepay.

Can I watch the Pens playoff games on my FireStick if I'm in Minnesota? NBC App? I have all the channels I need through DirecTV if I have to authenticate through them.

This schedule shows the games on NBCSN and NBC: https://www.nhl.com/penguins/schedule/2018-04-01/ET

I guess I can rephrase the question.

Is out of market hockey available on a legit NBC streaming platform? Or does NHL.tv streaming platform have exclusive rights for that?

That’s odd, the last few years with root and this past year the first round games were on ATTSN...I won’t have to find a stream on reddit this year.
The NBCSN app will have the game. You have the regular satellite directv streaming right? You should be
able to watch it from your app.

Sure, I could hook my laptop to the TV. I'm just trying to watch it with my FireStick.

At least on Sunday when I go from the AirBnB to the hotel room I'll just have a nice big TV that gets legitimate channels. ;)

You understand that's a regional sports network, right?

They don’t have a regular direct tv app for the fire stick?

Not sure. They have DirecTV Now but I think it's a different service.

The web based DirecTV console has been pretty bad over the years. Slow, lots of blackouts where there shouldn't be, etc. But I'll take a look tonight and see what's available for download.

The FireStick now has the Silk web browser, which eliminates the need to hook up a laptop to a TV when streaming.

Hey NHL: despite the fact that I pay for NBCSN I am stealing your content since you've made it unavailable. This lowers my incentive to pay for NBCSN at all...

It has been reported in Pens Related that ATTSN is not yet available on DTV Now. Thank you for your time.

Last night's game was streamable on NBCSN via DTV NOW, and I am in the PIttsburgh market.

My free Apple TV gets delivered tomorrow. Just in time for my internet to be hooked up as well.

I prepaid for 3 months, $111 after taxes.

Interesting. For the playoffs, the NHL announced that there will be no regional blackouts but I thought I read that Pittsburgh and Vegas would still have regional blackouts due to AT&T. Even still, do not expect the no blackouts thing to carry over to the regular season.

Agree. Hopefully one more game isn't blacked out (Friday) and then we're on to round two :)

Yeah, when I found out that the game was blacked out in the Pittsburgh market, I had no issues going on and finding a stream online. I really don't like doing it in general, but when it's that kind of BS, I have no issues with breaking the rules a bit.
