Yeah, holy crap. My wife has been bugging me to drag our our Newtonian telescope for years. What an excuse that would be.

lol, jesus. Those rates. Start moving past $250/night and the knees get weak.

That's about the same as a nice hotel in a big city; doesn't seem tooooo crazy.

Absolutely not. And to have 55 acres all to yourself? Wow. That would be wonderful in the fall. That's about the same as a nice hotel in a big city; doesn't seem tooooo crazy.

$400/night hotel is gonna have some nice amenities. I was just looking for a cabin I can take my mutt.
It's not crazy. Just something I'd have to plan a little farther ahead than just picking a random weekend 2-3 weeks out.

I stayed in Austin for a finish trip about 6 years ago. Really, really, really awesome chances to mother nature around there. We hiked into the hammersley wild area to fish. very neat.Haha, yes I wasn't suggesting you should book this place. I was saying that your best chance of finding truly isolated destinations is going to be in that vein.Yeah.
I'm not picking on shaf, the suggestion of using AirBnB is great. I like AirBnB, used it last week. That property just doesn't seem to fit my needs, which is fine.
In a related vein, I am 100% staying here in the next 2-3 years. Only dark sky site in the mid-Atlantic:

This sounds amzing.Blue Skies Lodge is a remote, isolated mountaintop Cabin in the middle of 55 acres with your own private star gazing field. Located on the same parallel as Cherry Springs State Park, it sleeps up to six, has a complete kitchen and we supply all the towels and linens.
Hike our trails, take in mountain air from the wrap around deck or commune over the fire-pit with family and friends.

went to parker dam state parker for a solid hike in roughly 7* temperatures yesterday. it was chloe's, beast dog, first walk in the wild. despite her short fur, she didn't slow down one bit.
parker dam is a great park btw. lots of hiking trails and lots of loop hiking trails. the cabin colony was really legit. even with subzero temperatures, about 40% of the cabins appeared to be occupied. what a gr8 way to spend new years....secluded in a cabin away from the rest of civilization.

Cabin dwellers were probably going at it like rabbits to keep warm.

Got a passport for Christmas, I look forward to filling it upYeah that passport looks like it would be a lot of fun. This pseudo-outdoorsman is a member of the PA parks and forest foundation, which sells the damn things, so it would make sense just to buy one. Some company also released some really cool state park patches, if patches are your thing:

I'm too soft to be a hunter. I like fishing because I do catch and release.

Went up to Trout Run this morning to check things out. Only saw about a dozen steelies there - but they were huge, and the color on one was absolutely brilliant. I tried, but couldn't get a good pic.
The ice on Lake Erie is breaking up, but there's still a lot out there. Did a few minutes of beachcombing, but with all that ice, it was colder than what we were dressed for. Might head back up tomorrow.

Opening day of Trout on Saturday, and the weather looks incredible. 79°, but the scattered storm part worries me. This year pops and I will be breaking our local mold and are going up to fish Oil Creek in Titusville. Typically we either fish the lakes at Deer Lakes Park, or Pine Creek at the bottom of Wildwood sample.
This will be and interesting change, and I might have to switch up my choice of bait.
