Re AFC roadblocks.....
Steelers - A lot closer to mediocrity than I think any of us want to admit.
Jags - Fake news; 4-0 against HOU and IND last year, playing with backups. Even if you split those games, JAX finishes 8-8 and is on the sidelines in January.
Bills - lol
KC - Patrick Mahomes, good luck with that.
Tennessee - Similar story to JAX, 3-1 against the backups in IND and HOU.
Non-playoff teams:
Oakland - GRUDEN, but they're already close to their peak.
Chargers - Old QB, overachieved last year to win 9 games.
Ravens - A rebound for them would constitute winning 10 games and still maybe not making the playoffs again.
Bengals - Marvin Lewis /end
The Colts and maybe the Texans are the only AFC teams with anything like this kind of instant upside potential. All other teams are silly.

And also also how the Bell situation resolves. The defense is a wreck, and it's taking other world generational skill players on offense to get this team to 10+ wins every year, where you can safely spot them at least four wins out of the gun every year because of their division.

Bell is dandy but this isn't 1996. He's over used and leaning on the run game hurts the offense - even if he gets yards at a good clip. His cuts and broken tackles amount to the same as a vanilla Jesse James catch. And also also how the Bell situation resolves. This team dies when we lose our QB. Which may or may not be soon.

I don't disagree with the overall sensibility of this post, but I don't think leaning on Bell hurts the offense. It is the offense..... 406 touches last year is a lot (we can debate if it's too much), but that's the coaches telling you that Bell is the cog that makes the whole shebang work.Bell is dandy but this isn't 1996. It's time to stop confusing Bell's individual performance with actual effective use of the running back position or declaring him the piece that makes the offense work. Despite all of his accolades the Steelers are barely in the top half of Yards From Scrimmage for the position and solidly in the bottom third of yards generated from the RB position. Ben is what makes the offense work. Le'Veon Bell is a damn good running back who is overused and complete unnecessary. Plenty of teams in the league, including the two that just played for the Super Bowl, do a better job utilizing their RBs and generating offense from the RB position with low draft picks, undrafted free agents, and complete castoffs. Paying Bell anywhere near the amount of money he wants is a mistake.

I'm not making any claims about the 'running back position', I'm talking specifically about Bell.
He's a force multiplier. Having him and his ability to run inside or outside, and to line up as a flanker makes the other skill players on the field more dangerous.
Also note with Bell, we're talking about those numbers in the context of 15 GP. It's reasonable to presume that had he played Week 17 vs CLE those stats would look a bit different (the Steelers would undoubtedly have been a top 10 team in that first stat, possibly as high as 8 or even 7), and that would percolate across the other metrics.
The only player who had more yards from scrimmage this year was Todd Gurley (who also only played 15 games).

The best RB in the league doesn't have more than a net-neutral impact on the team? Is that where this is headed? The Steelers record when he gets 25+ touches is like infinity and 0, and when he doesn't, they never win. I'm not saying he's the whole ball of wax, but there's few RBs, hell, there's few players that are as impactful in their offenses as Bell is in Pittsburgh. The dude is a wagon.

every time you give the ball to the league's best running back, you are taking it out of the hands of the league's best receiver and an increasingly capable #2 and #3. not to say this is apples to apples, but any RB slows down this offense. The best RB in the league doesn't have more than a net-neutral impact on the team? I don't like the premise to start. Especially considering how much focus has to be paid to Bell (he's the best RB in the league) as a runner and as a receiver. Bell (and Brown, to be fair) are so effective that it allows Jesse James to screw up royally in big spots. On most teams, he would be easily covered by a DT...
I'm listening, but I don't like where you're going with this because it separates passing game from running game as if they are completely independent variables...

Interestingly enough, that also coincides with Mike Wallace and Emmanuel Sanders leaving as well as Heath retiringAn interesting thing happened to Antonio Brown once Le'Veon Bell arrived on the team. His average targets and receptions per game nearly doubled.
Hmm.

Are the Colts even in the NFL or have they been relegated?
