Any suggestions you can offer to potentially help with getting the new cat to accept the other?
It takes time. They usually tell you to keep them separate for several weeks, until the existing cats get used to the presence of a new one. Then let them interact slowly.
This.
When they are together, try to make it a positive experience. Feed them together, with lots of petting and attention for both.

It turns out that my "dachshund" is nothing of the sort. Image shows parents, grandparents and great grandparents. My goofy dachshund has his 10 year checkup tonight. All systems go and no back problems (though some minor hip issues). These milestones get me all wistful.

Pregnancy brain is a real thing... my wife just tried to murder our dog.
The dog that we're currently fostering is on fluoxetine for his over the top anxiety and fear of all things. He's a 70 pound dog, and takes a dose for a 70 pound dog. For whatever reason this evening my wife gave our dog (17 pounds) the foster's bowl which is larger than his, with his food which is different than his, along with the fluoxetine which is way different looking than our dog's meds.
I realize it about 5 minutes after they are done eating... panic time: will this kill him? do we make him throw up? do we just go get his stomach pumped? Call the local emergency vet, they have us contact pet poison control, they tell us to give him hydrogen peroxide to make him puke... we don't have that, so I run to the store. I just grabbed a $20 and as I'm in line to pay, I realize I just grabbed a bottle and didn't see the price... what if it's not enough? No worries, $0.79 for the bottle. Get home, get him to puke. The pill has dissolved as we only find small chunks of the casing. He pukes again... and again... and again, this time with blood in it. Wife and I are currently in the waiting room at the vet.
And it's the one game in forever that's on NBCSN and I can watch, and I see the Pens are up 4-1.

My boy is a trooper. They gave him an anti-nausea shot and told us to grab some pepcid AC for his esophagus as she thinks that's what was actually bleeding, not his stomach. He's chillin in his bed while I cook up some chicken and rice for him. Vet said judging by the time from ingestion to puke and the fact that he's just acting like his normal self other than the puking, he probably didn't get a ton of uptake from the drug.
All's good in the c2i household... for the moment.

Everything was good this morning... little guy was his normal self, like nothing ever happened. $100 for the vet visit, and $60 for the pet poison control help (btw, didn't know that was a thing until last night). So there goes my December bonus, but that's alright. My wife thanked me for not yelling at her at all last night. I just laughed and said "yeah, yelling at my pregnant wife who is already upset and angry at herself is a great idea..."

Good to hear c2i

Honestly, a good yelling at would've been appropriate, imo. But I'm glad to hear the little doggo is okay.

Nah, she was beating herself up enough over it and I’m not the yelling type. Not necessary imo.

I threw one of the cats out into the snow. He hissed ay me and came back inside.

In the same way that Mrs C2i is not the dog murdering type?
