The heavy use of E-175s on regional routes probably isn't going to change, since the CS100 is too big to fit into the scope clauses for most U.S. airlines. Those clauses are union agreements that limit the ability of an airline to contract flights to regionals like Republic, SkyWest, Mesa, etc., and they typically bar contracting out any flights that would use aircraft with more than seventy-something seats, which not coincidentally is exactly what the E-175 holds. That said, Delta obviously considers the CS100 big enough to fly as a mainline aircraft, and they also operate nearly a hundred of the Boeing 717-200, which is right around the same size as the CS100.

The coolest 787-9 around.

There's got to be a story behind that. Norwegian Air.... Freddie Mercury....... what's the connection?

Doing some quick research, Norwegian has a program they call "Tail fin heroes" where they incorporate portraits of notable people into their livery. While most of the people featured have been Scandinavian, they have included people from other countries, including the UK and US. There's a brand-new MAX 8 with Benjamin Franklin on it, for example. I didn't know they did that.

Air Berlin’s last long haul, pilots were in cahoots with the tower to do a go around and got suspended for it. Pretty badazz video. The pattern was not full.

Sweet. The Germans need to lighten up. And go-arounds are not "unusual." To the contrary, they're common procedures that happen all the time for many reasons. All pilots are trained on how and when to abort a landing, and the rule is pretty much to always err on the side of caution and abort the landing when there is even a sniff of something going amiss. The pilots also had ATC clearance, and the turn was well within the capabilities of an A330.

I think the problem was that it was over the field and below tower height. I think most go-around procedures are to maintain like 2,000' AGL, and fly straight and level until you intercept the normal climb out route. Or something like that. They do tend to frown on buzzing the tower.
That said, the ATC guys should be on the hot seat, too.

Air Canada being probed for another runway blunder at SFO
Didn't hear/ignored six orders from ATC to abort and go around.

Yikes. Another serious incident for Air Canada. Other than maybe "climb immediately!", I have a hard time thinking of a more crucial ATC communication than "go around"—especially at SFO, which is not only super busy but also runs intersecting actives. The pilots mention a "problem with the radio," and I hope for their sake it actually was a technical problem and not a pilot error, such as setting the wrong frequency.

If airline slogans were true:

Speaking of Southwest, is it worth the $15 for auto check-in? Last time I flew with them I could check-in 24 hours beforehand and it wasn't an issue. But they didn't have auto check-in at the time.

My slogan for Allegiant would be:
Flying your grandma to Florida on a jet that's just as old as she is.

As a friend once leaned over and said to me on an Allegiant Flight, "I think this bird firebombed Dresden."

The $15 auto check-in is just trying to take advantage of financially comfortable passengers that don't feel like checking in 24 hours beforehand. As long as you are doing the usual F5 routine on their page, there's no reason to do this.Speaking of Southwest, is it worth the $15 for auto check-in? As long as you're flying by yourself you'll avoid a middle seat as long as you don't check in like two hours late. Between 2/3 of the seats being aisle or window and then families sitting together, I've never gotten stuck in the middle flying solo on Southwest. I wouldn't pay extra for that unless you're with others that you want to sit with

I used to not mind flying Southwest, but I've stopped. Not because of the cattle call seating, mind you. No...because I hate how they encourage their flight attendants (excuse me, stewards) to moonlight as standup comedians during the safety briefing and any other time they get on the mic. The VIRAL YouTube clips of Southwest safety briefings just make me cringe. It's either some sassy middle aged woman or a ridiculously flamboyant man. Not funny, just say your piece and leave me alone.I solve that issue by never flying Southwest.

I’m not a fan of the goofy videos, but it’s probably low on my list of concerns. I think I may the only person left who still pays attention to the safety briefing even though I know the routine by heart.I used to not mind flying Southwest, but I've stopped.
