I have been an unabashed Ferrari fan since I was in second grade. There's nothing Buxton says in that piece that I can disagree with. Ever since the Schumacher/Todt/Brawn/Byrne ouster in 2006, the team has sort of been circling the drain. They got Fernando Alonso right in the midst of Montezemolo's desire to 're-Italianize' the Scuderia, and - from a managerial point of view - can you imagine a stupider concept? They had just gone on a tear of winning five WDCs and six constructors championships in a row, and the year immediately following the Great Exodus of Non-Italians they were able to swing another championship double, thanks to the afterglow.
Since then? A litany of squandered opportunities and near misses. As the team has become more Italianified, they've become more prone to shooting themselves in the face. Since 2007, they've gone into the last race of the season three times ('08, '10, '12) with the chance to wrap up the WDC and they blew it all three times.
Arrivabene would make Enzo say, "Dude... chill."
This year has, in some ways, been worse than 1992 when three drivers in the hapless F92A had about as many retirements as they scored points (20-21, respectively).

One of my law school classmates just published his . . . memoir, I guess:
https://www.amazon.com/Worlds-Fastest-N ... 975941357/
I haven't read it yet but Jim is one of the people in my class that I have actually gotten to know and enjoy talking to so I thought I'd make mention of his book if anyone wants to take a look. I'll read it between semesters and let you know how it is.

First career Neurosurgeon, second @ 54 is to be a lawyer?

He overachieves for a living. Funny thing is he dropped this semester because of the stress of it all, but is starting up again in the spring. Might be the only finish line I ever beat him to.
I think he's getting out of the cutting game and wants to do something in the healthcare management arena and is using his JD to compliment the MD for that purpose. I can't speak for him but my understanding is he is looking to do CEO stuff moving forward. As you do.

Those are some interesting blurbs.
It's not uncommon for JDs to get medical degrees, especially if they are going into malpractice, or medical device patent fields. (Same hold true for other specialized fields, like, say, engineering) But I think it's kind of rare for that stream to flow the other direction. I'm not super sure what utility that law degree serves someone who is already a medical specialist.
But to each their own.

I shouldn't be mad. I had a great day at the track, can't ask for better weather and the event itself went off without a hitch.
That said, even though I moved my braking points, coasted less, committed to difficult turns earlier and had more maintenance throttle through complex turns my best lap of the day was essentially identical to the PR I set in June.
Both today and in June I ran a 2:15.x at PittRace full, a 2.78 mile course.
Today felt so good. I don't get it. I can say things to explain it away but coming in at the exact same time is really shitty.
Honestly, what the **** are we doing here?

I know you're trying to bring levity and I appreciate that; my issue is that despite running closer to the edge I ran an identical time, in essence I'm losing to myself.
The maddening thing is that there are so many variables so I don't really know how to quantify it. Since my PR in June the track has been resurfaced and my tires are shittier now. But still. ****.

By definition, one of two things could have happened:
1) You did not, in fact, run closer to the edge; or,
2) You are driving at the vehicle's limit, to the tenth of a second across 4300 meters.
But if you're on a different surface on the same tires, there's no way to do a valid 1:1 comparison. Two-fifteen is your PR on this track in this condition on those tires. Worry if that time doesn't come down the next time you go out.

I will not succumb to you binary construct. There is my worst time and an optimum time that exist on a spectrum. I can't say I've reached the vehicles limit because that would imply I am 'good' and I cannot allow that. I was also, in fact, closer to the 'edge' as I know it.
Again, variables. But whatever. There was a guy there in an '07 Shelby GT500 and PR'd with a 2:10 so I don't know what to think. I shouldn't be able to hang with him so maybe he's **** tier, I dunno.
Anyway, this is driving me crazy. Trying to track down some software so I can put the laps exactly side by side and see what the **** I'm doing.

**** tires and track temp can be good for a second or two I’d bet, and that doesn’t mention the resurfacing. I’d ask around to see how others did comparatively. There are many morning I hit the (RC) track and the car “feels” freer and faster but the clock doesn’t agree. In those cases I’m checking a handful of other people’s times to see if it’s just the track.

Check it:Source of the post I thought you had a data logger suite?
That gap at ~44 seconds in is a staggering 51 mph to 28 mph improvement from June to today, but it resulted in a lap that was .2 slower than June. I must've really took my sweet as time around Turn 17 at the end of the lap to give all of that back.

Forget it.
Looking at the overlays I can clearly see why that particular lap was essentially equal to that other specific lap. It doesn't explain why my best laps from either session were basically equal other than small sample size and inconsistency, the second of which is a dagger.
Thanks.

F1 to offer streaming services package in 2018
Nothing formal has been announced but it appears that the new owners will have their own broadcast packages with a lot more content pre, on and post-event. That’s terrific news and if you are still paying for a broadcast package from your cable company to get F1, then here is your chance to finally cut the cord.
This now starts to make more sense, as the Autosport article suggests, that NBC didn’t want to compete with the bespoke F1 package and would have rather used their NBC apps and services to provide such a streaming package.

I have heard they're thinking of partnering with Netflix on this. I remember reading it because I had to change my pants when I finished.
