We have an open toilet in our basement, but it's not in the center of the room. It's perfect for grass cutting, garage work.
:thumb: We installed one in our basement, along with a slop sink and shower about 15 years ago.

"Pittsburgh Potties": A Real & Very Mysterious Thing

I have one. It's hilarious. Family calls it the spider potty. Only the males in the family seem comfortable using it.

Ours is against the block wall right near the floor drain, so cleaning it is super easy. Spray down with cleaner and hose it down with the hand shower.

At my sister's house in Greensburg, there is a toilet/shower/sink and washer/dryer where the pantry used to be. There is no door, you just go around the corner from either the kitchen or living room and there it is.

When they bought the house, they were told because of the former owner's medical needs, the bathroom fixtures and washer/dryer were installed. Which is weird because there is a full bath on the same level, around the other corner.

Yes, split-level house in Altoona when I was in college. Half of the downstairs was pretty much an apartment for me, the other half was storage. Had a completely open toilet with a circular shower curtain that would pull around. But it only covered about 4/5 of the way, so directly behind the toilet was open at all times.

It's probably one of my favorite things in the house - just stop working pee, and get right back to it. There's a strict no number 2 policy though I have on myself. When we first bought the house - my wife's cousin stopped over unannounced to drop something off (I was expecting him, but I also expected a text) and he saw me doing the business.

You're a grown man. Get rid of that nonsense toilet or build walls around it. This is nothing short of preposterous

I've had this happen to me as well. Just know you are not alone in this fight. Do not give in to those telling you to build up walls around it! Fight the good fight with me and countless others!

I jogged to work today and I forgot my wallet. So in addition to being sticky with sweat, I'm hungry and have no way home.

Any bars accept Android Pay? That mostly seems to only be in retail/fast food. I figured a bar would be a good place to eat cheap happy hour food after I get out of here starving, and then not have to Uber home sober
I know Rivertowne takes SRVD, which allows you do orders from your phone but I'm not sure if it allows for Android Pay.

Walls would be the worst thing. I love just walking in and peeing.

Re: Pittsburgh toilet, we had one in the back part of our basement growing up. It was weird, the front part of the basement was a guest room that was probably nicer and definitely larger than my room. Full closet, new windows, access to the outside porch. Even calling it a basement isn't truly accurate. It was the floor below our living room/kitchen, but it wasn't ground level since you still had the garage below it.

But once you opened the door to the back half of the basement, it was a mess. In the back was a Pittsburgh toilet, our washer/dryer, and not just a coal furnace but a huge pile of coal in a confined area that was half the size of the guest room.

If you guessed the coal pile was right beside the dryer, then you definitely guessed correctly.

I think I once saw this phenomenon in a basement in New Brunswick, NJ...just a toilet, in a basement, shower curtain around it, not particularly clandestine...just seemingly arbitrarily placed because the person that built the house didn't want to lug the toilet back upstairs and he had to leave in 15 minutes, so he put it...there...
