NHL rumblings: 84-game schedule being considered for 2026-27, and could league cancel ’26 All-Star Game?

I feel like I’m the only fan who wants less games. We dont need to be playing hockey in June.

69 game season is enough.

Division opponents 3X a year, all other teams twice.

I'd love for it to go back to 76 personally, but that would obviously never happen. 84 is too many, a lot of games are already mailed in as is.

72 or 76 is fine. Going back up to 84 doesn't make sense, especially if they're gonna do play-in game nonsense...

no, we're going with the "sorry the NHL **** you over and let you have shitty owners" approach.

I'm still not convinced it'll take. ATL is a transplant city. those people that flee NYC, Buffalo, Detroit, Philly, Boston, etc never give up their childhood teams and also teach their children to cheer for a team in a place they maybe visit once a year during the holidays.
now, if the team can win some playoff games in say, the first 5 years, there's hope. every team from the late 90s draft class was screwed over by the NHL. with the sad quality of players they had to choose from, they were all destined to lose for a long, long time. the Preds are the only one of those 4 teams to even sniff the Stanley Cup and that took almost 20 years.

Eh. So is LA, Vegas, DC, Tampa, Phoenix (okay maybe Phoenix isn't the best example). As you said, all it takes is winning. And with the way the NHL has been handling expansion, that isn't as difficult as it used to be. Look at Vegas. Atlanta is a huge market. In fact, Houston and Atlanta are the last two top ten markets without an NHL team. It makes a lot of sense from that perspective. 34 teams in the league is ... a lot though.

Trying to talk hockey on reddit is a fool's errand.

I'm currently downvoted for saying Alexi Protas's current season is being buoyed by a 22.7% shooting percentage, which is 2.5 times higher than his previous career high.

Somehow, pointing out simple facts is frowned upon. Beats me.

Wisconsin women's team won the national championship and this happened at the end of regulation to tie the game (an Ohio State player covered the puck in the crease which led to this)

I'm not sure how I feel about this. The move looks cool because the goalie bites hard on the last deke but I absolutely can see how the skater stopped her momentum to change direction and then brought the puck backwards. Was it enough of a change of direction to wave off the goal? idk, the rules are a bit vague in this

I feel like it should be a bigger story that the Detroit Red Wings currently have the 3rd worst PK% of all time

I've seen a lot of comments all over Twitter X about this. IMO, there's nothing wrong with this move and it's done by players on a regular basis. technically, the puck is "brought backwards" with just about every stickhandle of the puck that's not out in front of her. that's not what the rule is about. the rule is about not moving backwards with the puck and the shooter doesn't do that.
I think from this angle you see better that she puts on the brakes, never stopping fully, then takes a step forward and pulls off the move. 100% legal and filthy move.

Good for us. He's having a great year, but I don't like this player very much.
