We watched all of Somebody Somewhere in less than a week. It’s a great show and a shame that it never really found an audience. I guess there just isn’t a huge demand for a story about a self-hating overweight 50 year old woman trying to find herself with the help of her queer midwestern friends.

That's a great show. I'd never heard of it until I read an interview with Bridget Everett for the series finale. GG Max for dropping the ball promoting it.

I remember watching the first season, but I turned on the first episode of the second season, didn’t remember anything and thought it was dumb as hell

The first season wasn't great, and season 2 didn't improve things.

I'm about halfway through S2 now (3 seasons total), and feel confident doubling down: if you're looking for a comedy to add to your viewing queue, definitely give South Side some consideration.meecrofilm wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 10:57 am Comedy recommendation: just watched the first couple episodes of "South Side" on Max and it's pretty great. It ran for a few seasons a couple years ago. Very much feels like Detroiters with a li'l bit of Letterkenny mixed in. Very fun overall tone. Check it aut.

I would recommend watching slow horses if you want a spy show. And if you have already watched slow horses, I would recommend just rewatching it

Yeah, I am deep into Slow Horses. I'm in the middle of the pre-quel-ish book The Secret Hours, and I've read all of the books and novellas in the main Slow Horses series. Really good stuff, and much lighter than your average spy series/book.
I think I posted about it ITT, but I can't recommend The Bureau highly enough - it's the 5 series French series that the current US series "The Agency" is based on. It's tough to find legally in the US, but it's almost on the level of The Wire and The Sopranos.
Having finished that a few weeks ago, and moving on to The Night Agent was really rough.

What's everyone's season rankings so far? I think they've all been great, but if pressed, I'd probably go:Troy Loney wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 11:15 am I would recommend watching slow horses if you want a spy show. And if you have already watched slow horses, I would recommend just rewatching it

Not sure I can pick a favorite between 1 and 2. 4 kind of annoys me because the stuff in France was hard to follow, but I think too much of 3 is a fire fight and gets boring for me. But the initial reveal on 3 is so good, and the scene where lamb goes to the restaurant to interrupt Judd and Monty is so good.

The Agency was very good. Solid casting all around, and it matches a lot of the beats from the original French show. Those of you missing Slow Horses, the early seasons of Homeland, The Americans, will like this show.

Finally started The Bear season 3... wtf was that first episode. Made us not want to keep going, but we are going to give it a few more episodes. 2 and 3 weren't bad, but could have been one episode to be honest.

We finished season 3 of the Bear and holy hell was it bad. I think it was worse than the last season of GoT. Just terrible. At least the episodes were short but wow awful. Zero interest in season 4.

Silo season 2 was decent, but very dark (lighting). Glad I waited to binge it in a few days, as the weekly cliffhangers got tiresome. Decided to listen to the books again to fill in the details. Good stuff.

we refer to that as "dirty, sweaty, dimly lit"DigitalGypsy66 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 4:32 pm Silo season 2 was decent, but very dark (lighting). season 3 will vary from the books because as the producers said, you don't have Rebecca Ferguson as your lead and only use her for the last episode.
I'm just past the mid-point of the second book now. Mission just gave his friends all his chits to transport him up.

I guess I have to decide if I want to read the books now.
Agreed on the lighting, it made it very difficult to watch on multiple occasions.

Decided to binge HIMYM. That ending sucked. The show wasn’t bad for a lot of it, but the last season robin and Barney stuff combined with the last episode was just unsatisfying.

I was so confused with the entire thing building up just to introduce the mother, kill her off, and move on in a single season at the end of the show.
It definitely had a lot of good moments and I love Jason Segel, so that helps, but yeah. That ending? Woof.
