Rantanen is probably asking for a lot, and Carolina does not like to pay above their perceived value. I think this is going to be Guentzel 2.0.

I'm not an expert on these kind of moves, but what does Chicago gain here?

A third round pick for retaining salary they aren’t gonna use. It’s not much but I guess if your owner doesn’t care about actual cash it’s a good move

Out of curiosity, have there been enough of these trades yet to evaluate the dollar price for a pick? Obviously, some drafts are better than others, but I'd think there would be a general trend.

why is ripping an opponent's helmet off in a fight not an additional penalty? I mean, besides the fact that JT Miller is an apparent asshat that nobody likes?

It's only if you take your helmet off before the fight or if an opponent takes it off during play. What happened there is just part of the altercation...

it may be the rule and it certainly happened really fast but IMO, that's not part of the altercation. intentionally ripping someone's helmet off like that should be an extra 2:00. that said, I think players should be allowed to remove their own helmet as a fight is starting, if they choose to. this rule is ass backwards.

@meow @King Colby this is what I was talking about RE: Miller and Pettersson
> “and I felt like for a long time that there was a solution here because everybody has worked on it, including the parties involved. But it only gets resolved for a short period of time and then it festers again and so it certainly appears like there’s not a good solution that would keep this group together.”

“We’ve had those conversations and I think the parties understand that and I think they’ve tried,” Rutherford told me. “As you know, sometimes emotions get deep and as much as people try sometimes you can’t get over it. It certainly appears that’s what’s going on here.”

> “We’re talking about two of our top players,” Rutherford said. “Certainly, our two best forwards. It can really be tough on a franchise – not only present but into the future – when you’re planning on peaking this team into a contending team and then you find out that’s not going to happen. Or at least it’s not going to happen with the group we have now. Then you have to put together a new plan.”

> We’ll have to do the best we can in trades,” Rutherford said. “Whatever assets you get in return, you may turn them into something else. And we have to work our way back into being a contending team.”

> “So yeah, if a centre goes out of here we have to get some kind of centre back but it’s not going to be the same as the centre going out. It might not even be a No. 2 centre, but you’d have to do the best with what we have until we figure out how to fill that spot back in.”

Wow...very interesting situation with Saad. Really just wants a chance to play and knows he's unmovable at that rate. Of all the players, I'm surprised it's him.
