Sorry c2i. They are family as much as any people are. It’s so hard losing them.

Thanks for that passage redwill. I like that a lot.

Our other dog (who is blind) has been trying to find him all day. I’m hoping he settles in soon.

Isn't that the truth. And I think we get even more attached to them sometimes. So sorry fellas.

So so sorry c2i and redwill. :(

I constantly remind myself that I will some day look back at all of those moments of frustration/annoyance/exasperation we've had over the last 10 months with our puppy and give anything to experience just one day of it again.

I have nothing to add that hasn't already been said, other than to share that I've shed a tear for Gomez as well if that's any indication of the reach and depth of his influence. RIP little guy.

My parents got Gracie a bed for Christmas. Small wrinkle: the dingus is afraid of anything soft, fluffy, and larger than a toy she can put in her mouth (and subsequently rip apart).

My solution after 20 minutes of treats and trying to convince her to come on the bed: I pet the bed like a dog. She got pissed off, stomped over to "attack" my hand, and then laid on it like "Ha, got you".

My dog (golden retriever) seems to suffer from yeasty ears and paws. At least that's what Google tells me. Any tips to help her with that? A supplement or maybe an outright food change? I clean her ears like 3x a week. And she's constantly licking her paws.

No smell that I've noticed, does that indicate something like an infection?

Corn chip smell is a combination of bacteria and fungus in the paws that smells 'yeasty.' It's harmless. Was just curious.

For Ace we just had to clean his earss everyday until the cultures in his ear were eradicated. Your issue probably isn't as acute.

Our dog licks his paws quite a bit...more in the summer than winter, but still does it this time of year. We've basically started giving him a benadryl like every other day or so (when the licking gets bad) and that has seemed to help.

Goes to the vet next week for his yearly, but I feel when we brought it up last year that is what they recommended when he needed it outside of an actual prescription.

thanks. I'll just continue to clean daily, and hope it gets better. Paws are not nearly as often as ears/shaking her head.

So we've gotten relatively back to normal here with Gomez gone. His ashes, collar, and a framed photo of him take a whole shelf in our dinning room bookcase. We also bought a small toilet figurine to put with it as his all time favorite thing was drinking water from the toilet. We plan to plant a tree in the backyard in the spring in his memory. My wife asked what kind and the first thing that came to my mind was hickory. I wasn't sure why, just what popped in there. Upon googling, apparently they're known known for slow growth and the need for patience while being tough and strong. If that's not our Gomez, I don't know what is. We'll spread some of his ashes and my daughter suggested for the planting and first watering to use some toilet water as a symbolic gesture.

My other dog, Max, used to play tug/fetch daily. After he went blind, it turned into tug only and some rolling around. I don't know when it happened, but he stopped wanting to play. Just wasn't interested. Pretty sure it was around the time Gomez started going downhill. Since his passing, not only does he want to play, he whines and whines and whines in the evening until someone comes and plays tug. It's kind of weird, but enjoyable. It's nice to see the 12 year old acting like a pup again.

@mac5155

We changed our dog to a grain free food and it cleared that stuff up over the course of like a month. He had very similar issues.

She is already on a food that's no corn wheat or soy. I see it has rice and oats in it though. Maybe something to try.

dodint wrote: Tue Dec 17, 2024 1:11 pm It's a good day. Ace is just a healthy, 'normal' dog now. All we can do from here is wait and see how much hair grows back over the next year, but he has no actual health problems to monitor.
Took Ace into surgery this morning.

For the last three weeks or so his testicles have doubled in size and he's been chewing on his sack to the point that it is infected. We've always hated his nutsack anyway so we're having everything removed.

Regarding the above, it turns out Ace has cancer. The swollen bag was, in part, a mast cell tumor. The same kind that was growing on his ear. They're now growing on his chest. It appears we were not able to contain it in time by removing the ear. The ones on his chest presented while he was healing from the ball bag removal. We are doing some x-rays and ultrasound to see how pervasive it is internally. Still, we're almost certain we're not going to treat this beyond ensuring his comfort, so in essence, we've entered the end game already despite only having him for five months.

This sucks. The little dude finally caught the break of a lifetime but it was too late. I cried the entire drive home.

I'm so sorry dodint. That's awful to hear, the three of you went through a lot to get here. You all deserved better. At least Ace is getting to experience a life of love here at the end, thank God for you and A.
