The Swedish goalie gave up a horrid goal earlier but it was called back offside, he proceeds to give up another horrid one to lose it for the Swedes late in OT...

I think the shots were 17-12 Finland at the halfway point of the second. They finished 40-22

It was fun for me because the US dominated it, but it is absolutely time to institute a backcourt violation in 3 on 3 play.meecrofilm wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 9:38 amBig fat meh to that. 3v3 is trash in pretty much any scenario, and last night was no different.

Another gimmick to fix the gimmick? Please just go back to 4-on-4.

Better than a shootout, I guess?meecrofilm wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 9:38 amBig fat meh to that. 3v3 is trash in pretty much any scenario, and last night was no different.
I also hate it, but it seems like international contests don't like continuous 5v5 (not sure if there are rules there). The 2010 gold medal OT in the Olympics was also 4v4.
Going away from 5v5 really helps the more skilled teams and takes away from the rest of the game, so I am not a fan when a championship is on the line.

20 mins of 4-on-4 followed by shootout is perfectly solid for international competition.
Another annoying outcome of the NHL implementing shootouts is they've lost their luster in international play (this applies to penalty shots too, but that's a whole other discussion).

no Gold Medal should ever be won by a shootout.meecrofilm wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 6:47 pm 20 mins of 4-on-4 followed by shootout is perfectly solid for international competition.
the USA dominated OT in that game. for the longest time, I thought the USA would get goalied.

I like the international shootout. Although they really need to go back to 3 rounds instead of 5 before you can start recycling shooters. Some great moments in the past from that. Forsberg in '94, Toews vs Mueller/Johnson in the WJC semis, and Oshie in '14. Of course just one of those was for a gold, but my god.....3on3 is complete shite. If it can't be decided after 20 mins of 4on4, a shootout is more than acceptable.
