"Scavengers Reign" is dope AF. Animated sci-fi where a crew gets split apart and stranded on a strange planet. The (literal) world-building is absolutely phenomenal. Easily one of the most imaginative and creative shows I've ever seen. A crude generalization would be: TV-MA Miyazaki. It's on Max and Netflix atm. 12 half-hour eps. Highly, highly recommend.

Really everyone should watch it so it gathers enough support for a season 2  . The studio even made a trailer already even tho it hasn't been renewed. Hoping for a "Warrior Season 3" scenario where it garners enough support that someone takes a chance on it.

Mark Strong for Dumbledore and Sharon Horgan for McGonagall. Solid casting imo, if true.

It seems like the streamers have hit upon the algorithm needed to engage middle aged college educated white men - spy thrillers!

Netflix dropped a six episode series called Black Doves last week (and it's already been renewed for another season) starring Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw. She plays a non-governmental spy, meaning she spies for a group that gets paid by the highest bidder. It's decent, and it's set during Christmas, which was interesting. Definitely worth checking out if you are into Slow Horses.

I haven't watched it yet, but Showtime has The Agency, which is a remake of the French spy series The Bureau (which I have started to watch, and it's excellent so far.) Michael Fassbender and Jodie Turner-Smith star in that, and I think I saw Richard Gere in a trailer. Fassbender plays a deep cover CIA agent who leaves his cover to return back to Langley, leaving his lover Turner-Smith behind. If it's like the French show, it will be pretty decent.

I've already talked about The Day of the Jackal which has been pretty good, with the finale coming on Thursday. My 16 year old likes that show, so maybe spy thrillers are just for old white guys.

We've been enjoying day of the jackal, pretty good atmosphere, even if it's as silly as Jack Black being the arms dealer in the previous movie, which I also enjoyed. The original is quite good as well.

Not gonna lie the residual Jack Black effect is part of the reason why I'm not watching this. The main reason of course being that I don't have Peacock.

Comedy recommendation: just watched the first couple episodes of "South Side" on Max and it's pretty great. It ran for a few seasons a couple years ago. Very much feels like Detroiters with a li'l bit of Letterkenny mixed in. Very fun overall tone. Check it aut.

Pretty simple right? Just keep all the dumb characters from his past out of the plot

Malcom in the Middle is returning with Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane K. That show was so underrated, so I’m excited about this.

I should have put this together earlier, but he actually survives getting shot in the chest at the end of the last miniseries. Somehow Dexter returned.

Of course, we all assumed he was doing voiceover only on the prequel series...but that's not all.

Talk about running a good (sometimes great) character and show into the ground...

Middle aged college educated white man likes this post.

I assume you have seen the Day of the Jackal movie film (the outstanding original, not the crappy remake).

I loved Dexter when it started (premise and character), and Season 4 with Trinity is still one of my favorite seasons of any series I've watched, but man did it just fall off a cliff. In retrospect that's probably because John Lithgow was the first and maybe only supporting actor that met or exceeded Michael C. Hall's performances. Every season/spinoff since then has just been awful. Not in a 'doesn't live up to what it was' way, but in the 'this is legitimate dogsh*t' way. Which really sucks, tbh.

Silo Renewed for 2 More Seasons — Apple TV+ Adaptation to Conclude With Season 4
Glad to see that they have an end goal in mind and that they won't drag it out for no reason. S02 has been terrific, as expected. Steve Zahn was a very welcome surprise.

3 books, 4 seasons make sense considering that the current season (2) is basically the second half of the first book. I'm reading book 2 now and it's pretty much an origin story so I would suspect that will be covered in flashbacks.
