Like, I get it? But I’m also confused as to what direction we are trying to head in

The direction is: Puustinen hasn't been very good. They think they acquired a better version of Puustinen (which is basically what Tomasino is), so that's the roster spot.

I’m a little surprised he turned out to be a nothingburger. I think he can be an NHLer with the right coaching

This was in the realm of reality for him. The part where Sullivan didn't do him favors is actually giving him too much (perhaps, unintentional) responsibility. Puustinen's skill set is that of a shooter, a third wheel that can get open, who won't kill plays. By playing him with Malkin, he is that. By playing him with someone that doesn't pass like Eller, it changes his use. He lacks skill chaining, he lacks top end speed, he lacks size, he isn't amazing in space...he can get open and shoot. He needs a center that can find him.

Maybe someone will give him that chance...he'll have a 15 goal season with that team, everyone will have Sullivan Derangement Syndrome about it, and then Puustinen will be in Sweden two years after that.

Poulin is nothing and is worth such in a trade. Every team had a chance to get him for free at the beginning of the season when he was placed on waivers, and nobody thought he could be an NHL regular. He has yet to prove otherwise.

Puustinen might get picked up but the only reason he lasted even this long is injuries.

The thought that the absence or presence of Valtteri Puustinen could be indicative of a direction made me chuckle

Tanner Howe and Harrison Brunicke and his bum wrist were invited to Canada's WJC camp later this month.
