Aren’t student newspapers subject to censorship by the school? For some reason I thought there was a Supreme Court ruling that decided that. Maybe that’s just for high schools though.

For high-school student papers, the SCOTUS in Hazelwood School District et al. v. Kuhlmeier et al., 484 U.S. 260 (1988) held that they can be censored if there is a "legitimate pedagogical concern." Examples given in the opinion include something that interferes with the requirements of school discipline, interferes with students' rights, interferes with academic propriety, generates health or welfare concerns, or is deemed obscene or vulgar.

For independent college papers, the answer is absolutely no. There have been some split cases on whether the Hazelwood rule applies to college newspapers that are subsidized by the college in question (the SCOTUS has not ruled on the question), but most of the Courts of Appeals have ruled that it does not, with the Seventh Circuit a notable outlier.
