Vance wants to do away with child care certifications and let anyone be a day care provider. Preferably in a church.

Walz is being extremely cordial about everything Trump did. What he deserves is to be lit the f*** up and destroyed.

Do they mean it in the sense that construction contractors in this country aren't hiring enough migrants and therefore can't build enough housing stock? Because that's about the only way they could do that.

Nope. Taking up housing stock and driving the prices of home up, especially in small American towns.

Literal head spinning way of thinking about things.

Walz was Walz… JD did his best to act as normal as possible and he did a pretty good job.

At the end of the day, the VP debate means absolutely nothing. They just had to not completely f*ck up and neither did.

Nuge wrote: Tue Oct 01, 2024 6:54 am Aren’t student newspapers subject to censorship by the school? For some reason I thought there was a Supreme Court ruling that decided that. Maybe that’s just for high schools though.

For high-school student papers, the SCOTUS in Hazelwood School District et al. v. Kuhlmeier et al., 484 U.S. 260 (1988) held that they can be censored if there is a "legitimate pedagogical concern." Examples given in the opinion include something that interferes with the requirements of school discipline, interferes with students' rights, interferes with academic propriety, generates health or welfare concerns, or is deemed obscene or vulgar.

For independent college papers, the answer is absolutely no. There have been some split cases on whether the Hazelwood rule applies to college newspapers that are subsidized by the college in question (the SCOTUS has not ruled on the question), but most of the Courts of Appeals have ruled that it does not, with the Seventh Circuit a notable outlier.

I don’t care about the debate but Vance actually said he thought the rules were no fact checking. It’d be funny if it wasn’t so sad.

A line that in real time was received well, that was followed up with a poor/unengaged performance and was a total punchline thanks to SNL by the end of the week.

I didn't hear his response prior to the fact check, I would assume he didn't go full eating your pets or else that would have been more news.
My only wish is that the moderator would have cut his mic after that and said "We're not going to jeopardize the safety of 25,000 people so you can tell half truths and lies."

Seems like it was a pretty vanilla debate. I'd wager that this moment was probably the most telling for anyone, including dummies who are still undecided:

He can't even say that the Pissbaby lost the 2020 election. There's no way to trust him.

I'd assume based off the quote that he tried to claim the Haitians were illegal immigrants, and the moderator stepped in to say they had full legal status.

I hadn’t really heard about Stockdale before but I read his wiki. POW for 7.5 years in Hanoi…god damn. That’s unfathomable

I am tired of hearing about illegal immigrants. I hear about it every single day, I simply don’t care about it, and I don’t see how it impacts people dramatically.

It doesn't, but when your voting base is intolerant, afraid of minorities, and said minorities can't vote its an easy talking point with minimal consequences.

You’d think a lot of that base would be upset that Trump called their grandparents and great grandparents “animals” because they were immigrants.
