They've got some other ECHL chode I think. I figured Gauthier would be pushing for more AHL starts. Regardless, seems a bit of a downgrade to go from what probably would've been a KHL backup to an cheese backup, no?
I guess they figured, hey, he's here now, might as well get it done.

I'm not sure if he would have played much in the KHL this year, they have two goalies on that roster already. Even if they have seven guys under contract, that's not crazy...especially because these guys generally aren't playing full seasons anyhow.meecrofilm wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 10:41 pmThey've got some other ECHL chode I think. I imagine Murashov starts in the ECHL pretty quickly after adapting to the rink size. And the ECHL - which was already a popular spot for the youngest pro goalie in an organization - is on the rise. There used to be only five-ish NHL-contracted players per team, last year it was like 8 or 9.
The KHL is on the slide. Not that it's down to the level of the ECHL, but the gap has never been narrower in my opinion. So, if Murashov is serious about contending for an NHL job at some point, this could be a good move. If it doesn't necessarily work out right away, we could probably loan him to a Liiga team or Allsvenskan team without fear of him never coming back...

I thought Gauthier went to Europe, or am I thinking of a different Wheeling goalie

/r/Penguins afire that Geno gave an interview to a Russian news source saying he'd like to finish his career in Russia.
Hasn't he said this or alluded to this before? Also, that's kind of what you have to say to a Russian news source these days as a prominent Russian hockey player.
Regardless, he's on his last NHL contract and go play in the KHL after that.

a lot of them do that when they're closing in on 40 because they'll get more money in Russia and be bigger stars because the KHL is not to the NHL level. see Kovalchuk, Ilya.

I take that comment with serious grain of salt
A) you can’t really not say that sort of thing to Russian media with Putin hanging around
B) his wife ain’t ever leaving Miami

Will he have to flee the US secretly in the middle of the night?
I have no issue with him playing his last years in the KHL. It's basically the same thing as being retired as far as I'm concerned. Go do your thing.

Was curious how many days until Penguins hockey.

What did you buy?
Thinking about getting a second pair for coaching. My feet basically die wearing my extra stiff hockey skates while coaching plus I don’t want to wear em out

Not the biggest loss ever, but I saw Alexander Barabanov signed in the KHL...I was kinda hoping that he'd end up here on the cheap. He's a guy that Dubas signed a few years ago in Toronto.

Barabanov improves that situation slightly, in my opinion

So is Sid gonna sign an extension Wednesday or...
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
I feel like it would be a poorly kept secret if he wasn't planning to sign the extension
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
And by that I mean I'm almost positive Canadian hockey media types would be talking about it nonstop. The only people really making a deal over it not being signed are the local guys.

I was thinking of Tommy Nappier, who signed with the Bristol Pitbulls of the NIHL

Happy Crosby Day. His extension must be signed today, you know, per superstitions and such.
